I bought a new LSI MegaRAID SAS 9361-8i raid card and will be pairing this up with 6 WD Red 4 tb drives. My new raid card came without any instructions and just had a warranty card and basic handling instruction cad.

The SAS cable to sata cable is a 1.0 meter internal cable SFF8643 to x4 SATA HDD (mini SAS HD to SATA data port). The thing that has me a bit confused is it has a fifth connector that has an 8 pin female end. It reminds me of a front panel usb 2.0 lead that you plug into a motherboard. I'm assuming that this is a hard drive breakout cable which indicates via an led light that a drive has failed. Does this sound right, and if so does anyone know of a breakout board that has these LED indicators that I can mount inside my HTPC chassis? If not then I'll just tuck it aside, but I wouldn't mind adding this feature.

The end looks like the one pictured below (different brand has 10 pin female end where mine has 8)

Mostly you will only find it on hotswap drive units, to plug it into.
It is a simple led connection though, easy enough to wire something up yourself.
I personally don't know of any breakout boards for it.

Thanks Patrickdk, that's what I thought but just wanted to make sure as this is the first major raid card I've used besides the integrated Intel raid 0,1 on motherboards.
