Lowering Vcore Settings

I played around yesterday with lowering the Vcore for my Q8200 as low as possible while maintaining stability.

Well, at stock speeds I've gotten the Vcore down to 1 volt. I tried .975 but rounding errors occurred in Prime95 and I haven't tested anything in between. Honestly, the temperature difference, which was the main reason for messing with the voltage in the first place, is only marginally different between 1 volt and .975.

My question is are there any caveats to running a processor at lower voltages? My motherboard wants to give the processor 1.225 volts. Even the Energy Saver software jumps the voltage up, which is kind of funny to me. Anyway, from a longevity standpoint, lower voltages are better, right? Are there any other issues I should know about?

Running the chip at lower voltage will use less power and in turn put out less heat. However, I would not expect any meaningful life span increase from running it under stock voltage, I would be more than willing to bet even OCed the chip will live well past it's useful life span. In all likelihood your mobo will be kicking the bucket long before the chip.

I was able to hit 3.6 with my Q9550 at 1.168 vcore (in CPU-Z) which I guess is 1.240 in bios, but I remember something happened that made me go back to 1.25 in bios, maybe someone told me not to go under stock volts, can’t really remember cuz at that time hitting 3.6 was using all my brain capacity :)
