I am having trouble with my temperatures right now, they are pretty high at all stock settings and I am afraid of overclocking with these high of numbers.
I'm looking to spend some money, around $100 or so on some nice fans for my case. I am looking to get 5 Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan , 3 to replace the stock fans, an extra in the removable middle cage, and replacing the Tuniq Tower 120 fan inside. Can I expect a big decrease in temperature while idling with this. It cost around 85 for all 5 S-Flex. This fans are pretty expensive but I heard they push some serious air, is this true and how much of a drop can I expect?

I hope to overclock soon.

Also why is my Tuniq T120 still have the same idling temperature as the stock cooler I was using? I reseated it twice and applied the paste twice as well.

Buying S-Flex for case fans is crazy. Maybe on a radiator, or to replace the one on the Tuniq, but not for case fans. Pick up some Yate Loon mid-speed 120mms instead -- they run all of $4-5 each, and they're great for case fans. I even run them on my radiator.

That $60-70 extra for the Scythes just isn't worth it, and could be much better spent elsewhere.

Get Scythe Slipstreams 1200rpm or 1600rpm versions. I have the same problem and been researching fans for a while. It seems to be the best bang for the buck.

I have a TRUE120 and my temps:
Idle: 40c Across the cores
Load: 70c Across all cores (Small FFTs on Prime95)

Q6700 @ 3.4ghz and 1.4675v

Anyone know why my temps jump so high?

The IHS on the Q6700 might not be flat, or the mating surface on the TRU120E could not be flat. You could also be using too much thermal grease, or have a bad mount. Any chance you can run lower vcore and keep stable? Lower vcore, lower temps.

actually i may have put too much TIM. it was my first time applying AS5 so i wanted to be sure i had enough. It would make sense though. i could probably lower the vcore by playing around with the other voltages but i havent done much research in that area.

You seem to have a very similar issue to my own. I'm running an E6600 at stock clocks, with a Zalman 9700, and getting 40 idle / 55 load. Of course, you likely have much better airflow, but then the Q6600 runs pretty hot as well, so I assume our situations are fairly similar.

I might try lapping the heatsink myself. I'm gonna take a look tonight to see how the contact is in between the sink and CPU. I'll keep you posted.

Less is more. Pull that sucker off and either do a /very/ thin line down the center or spread it out with the side of a credit card or similar.

If I missed it sorry, but you'll need to post your ambient temps also to get better help. I went on a tech call once, and the old dude had his thermostat on 80F!

Are these it?

Thank you all for the replies.

Also I found these 133CFC fans, but how loud is 40 vs 45DB?

I'm trying to get a thermostat as soon as I can ;[

First off, those temps are WAY too high for a stock G0. Nothing obvious to me from the pics... it all looks okay. Read the temperature management section of my o/c guide here to save me from retyping it all :p

Also, what's your vcore set to? If it's auto what is the idle vcore according to CPU-Z and what is the load vcore according to CPU-Z?
What are your idle temps according to Coretemp?
What are your load temps (prime95 version 25.x) according to Coretemp?

Judging by your MB temp of 35 °C, your problem isn't related to high case temp. It doesn't look like your GFX card is dumping hot air into the case either. You might need to lap the IHS on the chip as well as the base of your TT for starters, but answer my questions above first.

I'm not sure if that motherboard temp is right, In everest it says AUX, and in the BIOS it shows the same temp as System temperature. This is weird now, if AUX is the mobo it is now idling for 45c. I'm going to open this computer up, and check everything carefully.

Opening the case door leaves all the CPU cores going down to 35c Idle
And AUX to 42c..

OK... if you're running stock and hitting those temps @ 1.26 V, I suspect you have a problem with your chip/heatsink mating. Did you apply the TIM to the chip in the correct orientation? Quads are different than duals. Refer to the temperature managment section of my guide here for more on this and a link to AS5's instructions (with pics).

Beyond that, C2D and C2Q chips are notoriously concave. Are you opposed to lapping the HS and the IHS on your chip? That would really take a bite out of your temps. 66 is fine for load if you don't plan to o/c the chip. Most Q6600 G0 chips can hit 3.0 GHz easy (9x333) and some even higher (9x400) but not with those temps @ 9x266 @ 1.26 V.

My Q6600 ran hot until I lapped it and the HS's base. Have a look at the o/c guide I linked for more on this.

I actually redid the paste after I read your guide, I will check if any changes happened to the temps.
I don't mind lapping, but I was going to do it anyway later on.
Where can I get the sand paper and which ones should I buy?
How big were you temp drops with the lapping? I hope to atleast get this thing running in the 30s while in stock.

I hope to get my new video card soon becuase I do think this GPU is affecting it. It actually burns my finger to the touch :/

I just ordered 6 Yate Loon 120MM medium speed fans, with next day shipping for $35. What a deal! :D Can't wait.
Now I need a fan controller lol...

You can either read my o/c'ing guide which has links to temp drops, etc. or read this article I wrote on the topic over at techarp. Where to get the sand paper? Home depot should have 200, 400. You can find 600 or 800 and higher at any good auto parts store. The brand doesn't really make a difference, just be sure you by wet-or-dry sandpaper since you'll be using either low odor kerosene or very mildly soapy water.

Has anyone tried the Scythe Ultra Kaze 120MMx38MM fan? Its supposed to have high static pressure to push through the tightly spaced fins.

Think it will be better than the S-Flex?

http://www.ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=26743

High static pressure? Bah, if you believe that I have some magic beans I'll sell ya. The only reason that particular fan would theoretically have a higher capacity to cool is that it's speed is 2,000 RPM. Since the speed is directly proportional to the air flow (cubic feet per minute) assuming that tracks in a linear fashion up to 2,000 RPM, the faster fan will flow more air. The 1,600 RPM S-Flex SFF21F I'm using on my Ultra-120 Extreme is rated @ 64 cfm. The 2,000 RPM one you linked is rated at 87 cfm.

The key question you want to ask yourself is: is the faster fan better? Not necessarily. It all depends on what the slow step in heat dissipation for your system might be. For example, the HS itself can only transfer a set amount from its base to its fins. It could be that you're limited there and not by your ability to dissipate heat from the fins to your case.

Plus, that 2k RPM fan might be too noisy. It's rated for 33 dBA vs. 28 dBA for the 1,600 RPM one.

Little status update.

Reseated the heatsink, and temps stayed about the same about a 1 day or so, and I replaced my video card to a 8800GT 512MB and it didn't affect the CPU temps at all.
Still using the stock cooler on the GT while the Artic S1 gets back in stock.

Temps are getting better though
Been like this for the past day and today

Idle
CPU 43-40-40-40
GPU 41
HDD 37
Mobo 37

Hopefully my fans come today and my temps stay like this and lower.

Load

CPU 62-62-60-60

Got my fans today and installed them.

5c drop on everything mostly :D

Idle

CPU 37-34-34-34

Load

CPU 57-57-55-55

For the lapping, would this kit be good?
http://www.svc.com/lapkit-p.html
It pretty much has everything and I want to order all together and even brings a piece of glass.
Might as well lap my GPU while I am at it as well.

Ah, there's no truth to the static pressure thing? I was starting to wonder if my CPU fan needed to be replaced by one with more static pressure, since I get somewhat high temperatures for a Q6600 G0 with a TRUE 120 (though not shockingly high or anything). The fan is an NMB-MAT* with a max static pressure of 17.9Pa. Maybe that's not it though.. maybe it's just that it's a 64cfm fan.

(* Weird fan? It's the company who currently make the fans formerly known as Panaflo, since Panasonic merged that division with Minebea. However, I erroneously bought a dual-ball-bearing fan rather than a hydrodynamic wave fan; it's still a fine fan though.)

did you end up picking up the S-Flex E's?

None instead I ordered these, http://www.xoxide.com/yate-loon-mediumspeed-120.html

I ordered 6 Yate Loon Medium speed fans, they are great, and they almost as silent as the Antec Tri-Cool on low.

5c drop overall on all my parts.

Glad I didn't spend the $85 on the 5 S-Flexs lol...

Came out to $36 shipped with 2 day deliever option at Xoxide.

Should I go ahead and order the lapping kit?
http://www.svc.com/lapkit-p.html

You can just pick up the sandpaper locally (auto parts store for the high grit stuff) and use a piece of glass for a lapping surface. Saves a bit.
