I have a WDC 7200RPM 320GB ATA 8MB hdd that has very annoying vibration which are only enhanced because of the case.

Is it possible to lower the drive RPM's to ~5400 which should reduce the vibration?
I only need this drive for downloading torrents.

ps. I have already set the acoustic mode to lowest possible.

i dont think so. that acoustic setting is the only thing you can adjust. try to RMA this drive if I were you.

Don't think they will issue the RMA since it there is nothing wrong with the drive except vibrations

You can't change the RPMs. However you can isolate the drive from the case - the most effective way is to suspend the drive using elastic bands.

How about fixing the problem instead?

Change the drive to another bay? Tighten the screws? Make sure it has 4 screws holding it in? Add spacers or shims for anything in the case that is loose and vibrates?
