Lower retail e6600 overclock true?

Well I heard that the retail e6600's are pretty lackluster (~3.3) compared to the ES chips. I only see one B2 overclock in the OC Sticky (and it was low..) so I am posting to see whats up. Anyone with a B2 (retail) e6600 wanna chime in?

OP didn't say it was bad, just said it didn't compare so greatly to the ES chips, which is true. It is still a great overclocker on its own though.
 
hm..I guess my next question is, if it is true (I still want a e6600 holder to post) then is it a "luck of the draw" type thing (ES cherry picked) or are the retails actually made to be this way (I know this wouldnt make sense..).
 
Well didn't the ES chips have unlocked multipliers that helped with the great overclocking we saw?

All I've seen and heard is no they weren't unlocked
 
Only X6800 with open multiplier. Most of those 6600ES overclocking are with really good cooling.
 
You'll be pretty much guaranteed an 800MHz OC with a retail E6600. 3.2GHz is very doable. That however seems to be where the wall starts. On a 975X, you might get 3.4GHz. This is with air cooling.

While I'm disappointed I'll never hit 3.6GHz like all the ES chips did, I'm still stoked about an 800/1000MHz OC. :)
 
Quite a few threads on Xstreme about retail 6600s hitting 3.6 on air with no vcore increase on intel and asus 975 boards.

I myself have mine sitting at nice even 3ghz clock and its more than enough, I may try to touch the 400mhz fsb this weekend when i get my watercooling setup. :)

Huh? I'm on xtremesystems all day every day and I haven't seen this. No Vcore increase for a retail E6600 @ 3.5GHz? Your high unless you can caugh up a link.
 
Someone new posted in the OC sticky and got a retail up to 3.6 on air, woot!
 
^^Not a problem for 975X boards.^^ Link? Did you see by chance what VCore it took to do it?
 
Difference between highest not stable ES and retail overclock is 335MHz with no consideration to cooling method.
Difference between highest not stable ES and retail overclock using air is 165MHz.

Difference between highest stable ES and retail overclock is 252MHz with no consideration to cooling method.
Difference between highest stable ES and retail overclock using air is 150MHz.

That is the shakedown so far.

Also I should mention that all the ES overclocks were achieved using the Intel Bad Axe while the highest stable
and not stable retail overclocks were acheived using the Asus P5W DH.
 
hello im new here but wanted to say that im running my E6600 week L644G at 3.5Ghz 1.525V set 1.50 idle 1.47 load, its temps are between 28C-32C idle and 53C-60C load using CoreTemp 0.95, i cant get TAT to run, sorry. This CPU seems to oc very well.
BTW im using the Striker Extreme mobo with Patriot PC2 8500 at 1066Mhz 5-5-5-9 unlinked.
