Lower profile mechanical keyboard?

I have been hesitating in getting a mechanical keyboard due to the height of the keys. I am worried that the extra height will put a strain on my left wrist as a I game. Are there any mechanical keyboards with a lower profile? I would probably prefer the lower resistance Cherry Red keys. I also prefer full sized keys.

Check out cherry ML switches. Cherry uses them in their G84 keyboards.

Not really interested in a compact keyboard. I still want the keys to be the same size, just not as high. It also seems to be 2KRO, and I think that is limiting for almost all games.

Cherry ML's do have a shorter throw and lower profile than MX's. Like cherry MX switches, you can find them in other keyboards, but you will have to look for a keyboard that has the features you want.

The ML's are pretty much the only game in town if you want shorter throw, lower profile, mechanical switches.

If the ML's don't do it for you, why not just get a MX based board and use a wrist rest to elevate your hand position? Once you're used to typing on a MX based board you'll rarely bottom out the keys in standard typing.

To add to Kueller, you can also get key switch dampeners to cherry MX switches which shorten the key throw to about 3mm - which is the same as cherry ML's.

I am more worried of the angle of my wrist from the height of the keyboard/keys.

If you just want lower profile keycaps for MX boards then you'd want Cherry profile as they are shorter than the Filco -sized keycaps. If you mean you want a lower key travel then I'd just do the o-ring mod, though the change in bottoming out may feel noticeable to some.

I assume keyboards with Filco key caps are the most common which is why they always have such a high profile? Can you buy Cherry profile key caps to replace the caps on any keyboard with Cherry switches?

Alot of other manufacturers adopt the filco/oem profile keycaps. You can purchase Cherry keycaps from people on GeekHack or a mx moogle set which should replicate the original profile. If you don't already have a MX board then you should just look into getting a Cherry G80 series board. Of course they don't have all the flashy-ness that tenkeyless or newer designs have.

EDIT: also some people just buy cheap older Cherry boards off ebay/craigslist/etc and harvest keycaps

I am leaning towards getting an Azio Levetron Mech4 or a CM Storm Trigger. I like the Azio because it is spill resistant, and I like CM Storm Trigger because it is backlit, but it doesn't seem to be spill resistant.

I could be wrong but I think only MX browns are available for the trigger atm and teh azio uses blacks. They should both be using the higher profile keycaps and I don't know how often you spill stuff on your keyboard. Imo the Trigger already looks too busy for me and the Mech4 is just plain ugly imo, but im also into more subtle/boring looking boards (excluding modded/custom keycaps).

It's all about maximum functionality for me. I play MMORPGs and the more keys I have available the better. I honestly don't know what switches to get, but I am not sure I am keen on having the feedback of the browns as it could interrupt my key spamming.

As for spilling drink, occasionally some water gets out of my glass. If I get a keyboard that isn't water resistant, I will have to banish my glass from my desk and that isn't really something I want to do. I don't think I've ever spilled an entire drink onto my keyboard, if it happens, it usually just goes underneath.

The tactileness of browns is practically non-existant which is why i had to mod ergo clears to get that tactile feeling. Best way to find out is go to your nearest best buy/computer store that carries mechanical keyboards and get a feel for them.

if you have a frys nearby, they have corsair k60/k90 (reds), mionix (blacks), coolermaster quickfire pro (browns), steelseries 6gv2/7g (blacks)

i dont think they have any blues. good luck, i've tried them all and decided brown would suit me best.
