Lower Fan Speed

I went against peoples advice here and got a CPU fan that is extremely loud. I've downloaded SpeedFan and I'd like to adjust the speed. At full speed without any programs running the CPU (AMD Phenom II) stays between 29-35C - from what Ive read this is pretty good. Ive also read that it can go up to 75C. So my question is: what is the max temperature that you guys would recommend leaving the CPU at for extended periods of time. Obviously I don't want to go into the 70's but how much would it shorten my cpu life cycle if it stayed at say... 55C?

Thanks

I believe 65C is the max for Phenoms. Some are 63C or 62C. Over that and you risk system crashes.

but how much would it shorten my cpu life cycle if it stayed at say... 55C?

I have never seen a cpu die because of being close to the max. I have in the past seen a cpu the died because it went well over 100C and it did not have throttling.
