Low voltage protection

I have read in the Silent PC Review that the Antec SmartPower has a unusual low voltage protection.

In which cases I would need that?

Thanks

I suppose low voltage could cause data corruption during disk writes trashing your hard disk or improper component operation that might lead to some sort of hardware failure. I also think this very unlikely as all motherboards have voltage monitoring circuits that reset the system when they detect a low voltage.

I think low voltage protection in a power supply is more marketing hype then a real feature. A power supply can’t monitor cpu core or dram voltages.
