i have a question that has been beating up my mind since i put my intel system together w/ the much sought after p42.4c "m0". my temps are very low and so are my voltages w/ a stock HSF. all fairly undocumented experiments were done on my system.
not knowing the exact ambient temp i've allowed myself margin of error in temps since the room could have changed a little, but something still troubles me about what my mobo tells me.
at idle, my p42.4c idles at 27C no matter the speed. we took my friends 2.4 (non m0) and it idles at 28C, i see this as the same idle temp. my stock 2.4ghz load is 38C, his is 40C, again fairly close, but 2C is a little bit of a difference in my eyes.
when they are both OC'd to 3ghz, i load at 38C he loads at 53C, still stock HSF, i'm still at stock voltage he's up to 1.7 and i wouldn't push it farther.
i push mine further up to 3.5ghz and loading at 44C and 1.55v in the bios, still on the stock HSF! mobo monitor and my multimeter say 1.6, ~1.54 under load. his won't post past 3.0ghz, its his wall.
i put his sp-94?(or 97, whichever is the p4 model) and he loads at 45C @3ghz@1.65v, ran out of time and didn't try the sp on my m0 but it would have shown some low numbers i would imagine.
my question is, could my CPU just not be giving the correct temperature readings to the mobo? the temp sensor is on the CPU correct? so could that be off?
my heatsink does not feel very warm compared to my friends 2.4 when they are OC'd, so i know my is cooler than his, and we recenlty put his 3.2EE in and the stock HSF gets really hot and temps soar to 55C or higher.
my mobo readings for voltage seem good, not sure about how accurate temps are, the HSF "feels" cooler to the touch(don't worry i grounded myself) and my thermal protection doesn't kick in, i've tried to set thermal throttling to 50C in the bios, but my CPU doesn't go that high and CPU-Z and other apps still say my CPU is running at full speed even when i shut off my case fans and it rises to 52C but thermal throttling still doesn't kick in, but no higher no matter what.

. your friend on the otherhand shouldnt be running his 2.4c at 1.7v, thats getting a little dangerous even for a newer northwood or m0. he is not so lucky and has a 2.4c that overclocks like crap.
