Hello,

my application is a low profile PC (few cooling possibilities) and I'm looking for a CPU for that PC. The requirements are (most important first):

  • Cheap
  • Powerful enough to run XP, OCR software and mediaplayer.
  • Low TDP
  • Modern socket
  • Desktop CPU
  • DDR2 memory must be supported
  • 2 years availability at least
  • extra but not necessary: possibility to undervolt and underclock
  • extra: energy saving functions (cool 'n quiet, EIST..)

Your advice please

grtz

http://www.logicsupply.com/products/d201gly2 - this has a core solo processor - fanless - whole mobo probably 30 watts at idle - this would outpreform the above board by about 2x during a long OCR process - being fron intel, i'd expect this to be available for many years.
You beat me to the GLY2. It's actually 30W at LOAD, processor (Conroe-L Celeron, Core2 rather than Core Solo) has a 19W TDP. :)

I fired mine up for some heat tests last night. Under an Antec 120mm fan (so quiet, you can't even hear it), mid 20s at idle, mid/low 30s under load. Room temp is around 22/23C.

Fanless is a no go, I put the fan back at 79CPU/45NB.
