Low Power State - 2 questions

Quick, noob question about low power mode. I use Vista and often put the PC in low power mode, meaning the computer goes on standby and can quickly be accessed in seconds with a click of a button. 2 questions:

1) Does low power mode save wear and tear on PC components?

2) If I was downloading or installing something, would the installation/downloading stop while in a low power state?

1) Theoretically, yes. But it really wouldn't be noticeable or come into play as it is because the life of your computer is usually longer than you will have it and use it anyway.

2) Yes.
