Hey all,

In the past week the work units I am getting are all low pointers. Like 41 points. I also have had a couple early work unit ends. Any ideas? Just let it run and hope the big pointers show up again?

/folding configuration n00b.

I'm pretty sure early ends are a sign of a bad overclock. I've personally never got one yet, but I'm also pretty big on SuperPI 32M/Prime95/Memtest86 on my overclocks.

Full Folding Ahead!

The early ends I've seen are not on an overclocked machine. Actually none of my machines are oc'd atm.

Thanks for the input!

When was the last time you ran Memtest/Prime on that boxen.

I get about 1 in 100 early ends per work unit.
And they tend to happen just after Stanford releases a new batch of Protiens.
More than 2 on any one boxand I start to look why.

By the way, at the moment I'm running .........
4 small Gromacs at around 4 PpH.
9 Tinkers at around 7 PpH.
1 DGromac at around 13.7 PpH.

My Opterons give me a nice SSE2 boost with DGromacs....... :p

Luck............ :D

Heck yeah the DG's are pretty sweet on the opty's. But those small gromacs are just the big suck for points right now. Luckily I've got 2 QMD machines putting out the base of my PPD.

Try going from 150 hour @2ghz on my MP's to 50 hours @2.4 Ghz on my Opterons.
Its why I am swopping work units & machine ID between my boxen so as to maximize my Points per Hour.
Its also why I'm thinking of upgradeing my MP's To X2.
More Points from less Ghz/Kwh.

I want to stay near the top of the [H]orde for as long as possible.
It use to be that 30 Ghz would get-keep you in the NSZ but it must be double that now.

Edit. No Intel so no QMD's

Luck........ :D

What are D Gromacs, and how do you set them up on AMDs? They sound yummy.

I get them usually when I set -advmethods. I also get the Gbgromacs as well which is slightly different than the Dgromacs. PPD yield is YMMV depending on the protein. There is this 93 pointer that gets me like 350 ppd or something, which compares to my PPD on the p147x proteins.

All my boxen run with the -advmethods -forceasm -local switches.
Now the DGromacs ( deep blue in EMIII ) only run well with SSE2 boost.
On my AMD MP's @ 2 Ghz they run at 4 PpH so takeing 150 hours to finish.
But on my Opterons @ 2.4 Ghz they run at 13 PpH so only take 50 hours to finish.
Therefore if I get one on one of my MP dualies it gets swopped with whats on my Opteron.
Then the userid in the registry gets swopped between those boxen as well.

With Tinkers, there is no speed difference between my MP's & my Opterons on a pure Ghz base.
Both fold @ 3.5-3.6 PpHpG.

With Gromacs, my Opterons give me around a 15% boost in speed.
But the odd one gives me up to a 100% boost.
Small Gromacs @ 1.6-2.4 PpHpG.
Big Gromacs @ 3.2- 5 PpHpD

Amders are the same as small Gromacs.

Its only with the DGromacs that I get more that a 100% speed boost.

Luck........... :D

Looks like the low pointers were short lived. I pulled in a 600 pointer and it put me over the 30k mark! w00t!
