Any Reccomendations? I am going to use the general hardware's question list this is for a 64 bit server:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Birtualization
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
600 yes yes
3) Where do you live?
indiana
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The
word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Case, psu, mobo cpu(s) hdd(s) ram
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
N/A
6) Will you be overclocking?
If i should
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
N/A
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
Raid Sata 6Gb Would Be Nice
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Esxi?

I got my Dell Poweredge 1850 with a DRAC 4 enterprise, 4NICs, 2x Xeon 2.8Ghz (the hyperthreaded 4mb of L2 cache ones), 8GB of RAM 2x 74GB SCSI 10K RPM, redundant PSUs, a Win Server 2003 R2 license, Rails and the bezel for under $600. It is a 1U rack server so it is loud, but hey you can get a 2850 for less noise for a similar price.

The T110 and T210 are also good calls. More modern and a tower.

@ C7J0yc3 - I didn't think the 8th Gen PowerEdge Servers had VT-x
Are you running 64bit Windows guests on it??

@ O.P. - another low budget option is a desktop level system.

Dell Auction is a good place to find Optiplex 755's.
Look for Core2Duo (3000MHz or higher) or Core2Quad (2400MHz or higher) in
the MT, SDT, SFF form factors. Avoid the Ultra Small Form Factor.

The good: they support VT-x and VT-d in bios.
The bad: they are limited to 8GB of memory. It's an auction.

I love the PE T110 ... it just doesn't have BIOS support for VT-d ...but
run hypervisors like a champ + full 64bit guest support (VT-x).

2008 SP2 x64 and 2008 R2 both run fine for me. I am also able to run 64 bit linux. Before ESXi 4.1 I ran Hyper V and was also able to run 64 bit guests there.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just build a system from scratch?

Usually for this kind of money, buying tier 1 hardware from ebay or from an outlet you will get further then if you went to newegg and built a system yourself.
