Really. Is $50 a low ball offer for a MCP655 pump. I thought for a used item, and given the brand new prices, it was a fair offer.

Tell me if it was wrong for me to send that kind of offer...
 
if i had one i would sell it to you at 50 dollars , as it is all i have is rotron pumps that nobody is interested in

Lowball no. If I was selling it, lower than I'd like? Probably. But a 30 dollar difference between new and used isn't anything to get upset about.

I'd probably offer for 55 shipped, but that's me.
 
not too bad, especially used condition of most water cooling equipment.
 
If it was vario, maybe $55-60.. If it was fixed speed, $50 is more than fair.

Someone probably has sand in their vagina, you get alot of those sellers in these parts.
 
I wouldn't get too upset about it, you have what you want to pay, sellers have what they are willing to accept. Those two numbers aren't always going to line up.
 
I get bitched at all the time for lowballs but I really don't care. Sometimes people have unreasonable expectations and think their stuff is worth more than the market will bear. Personally I think $50 is high for a MCP655. My last one I picked up for $35 but it was a MCP655-B.
 
Lowballing, in my opinion, is relative to the seller - not to the buyer.
Every buyer has his idea of what he thinks the price of an item SHOULD be. Just because there are a few people who believe your value is a valid number, doesn't mean it isn't a lowball offer.

I think the market price of an iPad XX is worth $200. Seller A think it's worth $300. If I offer $200, I'm lowballing him.

So sure, the pump may be worth $50, but if the seller lists it at $100 and you offer $50... that's still a lowball offer.

When a seller says - "no lowballing" he's obviously basing the comparison to HIS price and already has a value in mind.

Therefore my take is - if the price is too far off what you're willing to pay - pass on it. No big deal, move on to the next seller. If you're going to lowball anyway, expect the worse, hope for the best.

Oh, and do everybody a favor and just send the offer by PM and not via the thread.
 
I bought mine for $50 shipped IIRC. I don't feel bad about throwing out a lowball offer to start negotiations. And quite a few times I've had people accept my lowball offers.

I don't know why some people take lowballing so personally. All they have to do is say no and be done with it.
 
To me a low ball is offering an amount of 70% of the asking price or less. Everyone knows the general rule for used stuff is 85% of the value of new (motherboard sells for $100 new, you set yours at $85). So if your listing is at $85, and you are offered $60, thats a bit low to start off negotiating. It will either be met at $75 or the seller is firm at $85, so by offering $65 its just a waste of time. Just offer up the $75 and be done.


Ive had offers of less then half my asking price, which at that point I reply back with a tone, because its just anoying and a waste of time. If someone is serious about buying it, they will offer a fair amount relative to the asking price, or look for it else where.
 
$50 would be that max that I would pay for a MCP655 used and I probably still would think it is expensive. If it wasn't around the $40 mark I would just buy a new one, especially if it is more than a year old. It would depend on how long it had been in use, if it was only a few months old I might consider around $60. However, just ignore it, if the dude thinks you are low balling him.
 
I think frequent buyers fail to account for shipping costs, and whether or not the seller is actually going to pack the item properly.
Most things are going to cost 7-10 dollars to ship, +insurance... if you aren't using ups ground.

Generally.... if you're going to low ball.. the value of a used item, is 85-100% of the ebay selling price, + whatever it's going to cost to ship. If you start asking for 60 percent of the "ebay value"... you aren't going to get very far.

But 50 dollars isn't a low ball for that pump, just on the low end.. the range in price is 55-65 dollars shipped. I'd offer to split shipping if you actually want the item.

A lot of the times when we are buying inexpensive parts... i'ts not about the money.. 5 dollars isn't going to break you or the seller.. it's more about being reasonable.
 
IMO people shouldn't get upset about low ball offers or about things they think are priced to high. if you get an offer that is to low politely decline it. If you think someone is selling something to high and you genuinely want to be helpful send them a pm. but otherwise leave it be and for the love of god keep it out of the thread.

I can't even tell you how many times I've had someone troll one of my FS threads because they think my asking price on something is too high to the point where some stuff I just sell on Ebay because I can get a better price even with the fees and not have to deal with people whining because they can't afford something they wan't and they think the FS forums are a charity.
 
I think all of the static over 'low-balling' is plain stupid & childish...I'm selling a DFI X58 & i7960 for 550. It's a proven clocker at 3.84 on air, with a 3.84 Uncore capable of 2:1 RAM @ 1920, all threads running(8), 1.24v core/1.29v VTT....nice....I'm in no hurry to sell so if you think I want too much for it, I don't give a flying F&$*. On water, with HT off, I was going 4.2GHz with UC/RAM @ 3840/1920.

If I don't get 550 for it. I'm not going to flame someone for offering me 50 quid..I would decline respectfully & that's it...The rest is a waste of my time & causes negative energy in the selling forum which is bad for business.....that's just counter-productive. If I offered someone a price for their 'item' & they started calling me a 'low-baller' or called it a 'low-ball offer',

I'd counter-offer with a penny on the condition they provide free shipping.....buh-bye...

Exactly how I feel. If a seller or buyer wants to act like a jerk I simply write them off and be done with it. If people aren't capable of a tiny bit of respect when trying to buy or sell things then they aren't worth the time or energy to deal with.
