Low audio problem, what happened?

I've had my emachines t2692 for about a year and half. Hey, it was on sale. It's been running great with no problems. A bit before I purchased this I bought a couple of computer parts because I was just going to end up building mine. Obviously I ended up buying the emachines and the soundcard that I purchased before was left just lying around my room. I bought a 1 gig stick of RAM for the computer today and I remembered I still had the sound card boxed up in my room so I decided to install that as well.

The soundcard is the M-Audio Revo 7.1. Install went smooth but I noticed something when I was playing my music. The sound is low, even at the highest setting. Previously my sound was coming from the motherboard's integrated audio system and eventhough it wasnt the greatest, the highest volume setting sounded really LOUD. Now my sound is not nearly as loud. Whats going on?

I already updated the drivers. Restart. Speakers are plugged into the right input. Still same thing. I'm thinking it might have something to do with my speakers. The onboard audio is just basic. No 5.1 or whatever. Just stereo, but it was loud as mentioned earlier. Now this card is much more advanced. My speakers are the basic emachines speakers. A set of 2 speakers. No subwoofer or anything.

Will I need to purchase more advanced speakers(5.1,blah blah) so that my sound can be as loud as before? Is that the only thing I can do?

Before it's mentioned, yup, I've gone through the settings and everything and moved everything to the highest or lowest level to get my sound louder. Still the same thing. I can lower it but I want it louder.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
They wouldnt happen to be a pair of Polk multimedia speakers, say, like these (minus the subwoofer):

If thats the case, then it's because the onboard of the emachines was the only form of amplification for those speakers. You'll need to buy some new speakers if you plan on using the Revo (which I highly suggest you do).
 
Do all your settings look like this?

If so, then I'd look at upgrading your speakers. How much do you care to spend? It'd likely be better if they weren't 5.1. The Revo has the sound quality to merit getting the best quality that you can afford. That means two-channel.

Get new speakers, the Revolution would be overkill for those kind of speakers anyway.
 
Sorry for the real late post but yeah, problem fixed. I gave one of my computer tech friends a call and he figured out the problem right away. I needed some powered speakers. My old emahines were nonpowered and were amplied by the onboard audio. Revo doesn't amplify speakers. Pretty much what so_cal_forever said also.

I got myself some Logitech X-530s 5.1 for a good price. Music never sounded so good.
