Hi guys, i have a P4 2.4 gig dell dimension 4600....recently i upgraded the powersupply and ram to 1.5gig and 450W..... and brought a ATI 850xt.....when i run 3dmark 2005, i only get around 4300 , at 1024x768, with no AA and optimal filtering..... is it because i'm constrained by CPU ? Thx !

Dave

yeh its the CPU...average for a x850xt is probably around 6100ish

It's the CPU. I had my X850XT in my old Dell 2.53Ghz, 1GB RAM, and it got a score of 4900. I put it into my current combo, running at 3.5Ghz and it gets 6583 for a score. RAM has a lot to do with it also, not only the amount of RAM, but the speed and timings of the RAM.

It's your cpu, you're not going to see the numbers that heavy overclockers get by using an old P4 2.4 at stock speeds

I dont get it my 1.8ghz A64 running at 2.25 gets over 6600 on 3DM05 with an x800pro.,
so how is a P4 2.4ghz cpu limited?
sorry to thread crap but semi related.

completly different architechture. the A64 does a lot more work for every mhz you have than a p4, so at similar clockspeeds an A64 will aboslutly rape a P4... even at stock speeds on the a64 it would be kickin the p4's ass.

Bottom line is that Dell systems are never good for gaming.
Please dont spread that bullshit.
