Like the title says, mostly to act as speakers at a lan, and maybe an upgrade from my Sennheiser HD280.

-Thank You

Why not buy cheap speakers? The sound quality of a headphone driven to extreme sound levels will not be anywhere near decent.

I feel likewise, however the information that you're seeking, is the Sennheiser HD25-1 (or HD25, but not HD25SP), which can go to 143dB SPL, the loudest I know of. Of course they are closed headphones, and I don't know how much of that would be leaked. Grados have the highest leakage / on the head sound ration I have noticed.

You must not be very good at gaming...

Using a pair of headphones as external speakers? HAHA.

I just don't see the point, frankly... you do realize that the stereo effect will not be there if the headphones are off your head, right? The "sound" coming from them will give you zero spatial clues and will probably drive your performance down.

for those that dont know, speakers at some lans are strickly prohibited, even the ones on monitors will get the promoters reminding you not to use them. Basically if your looking for sound thats not on your head, you are in it for a tough time. I like Audio technica cans because they are very low impedence and high effieciency, unlike some cans that are low impedence but are not very loud at all. You'll hear the sound fine if you wear them on your neck but you'll lose most if not all the audio positioning and fine detail. Oh and to all the posters give the guy some slack, you cant bring some z-5500 to lans and its hard to ask a guy to wear hot headphones for hrs on end due to the nature of lans with their extended playtimes.

If you get a set of open cans like the HD595's you wont have as much problem with them getting hot on your head like you do with the Audio technica A500/A900's which are closed cans.

I have the HD595's and they're pretty damn loud off my head...Although like everyone else said, its kind of pointless.

The whole point of headphones is to confine sound to a small space. That said, you might as well just find some small speakers, remove the cones and make your own enclosure.

I've had the mp3 version of those for a while. Not bad but still techincally speakers.

Well, i occasionally have my headphones around my neck at louder volumes, its usually when im over at a friends houes and i really dont want to lung around even my 2.1 speakers, and that usually just for background music while talking or surfing the web or something, just give the guy some slack, but anywho, a pair of open cans would probly be best, HD595's sound good to me........
