I have an NEC IDE DVD Burner in my HTPC that seems way too loud when watching DVDs on it. The drive functions perfectly otherwise. I was curious if there are applications that can run in the background to try and slow the drive down to the minimum speed for good playback? I know some mobile computers have a setting in the BIOS for this, but I haven't found anything for my system. Specs are below.

ASUS Pundit P1-AH1
s939 3700+ San Diego Core w/ 1MB
2x512MB DDR Patriot
250GB WD SATA
WinXP Pro x86

BTW: Asus's website sucks!

I have one myself. I think you're out of luck. You could always transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive and then play them... :\

I know that my plextor came with an optional software suite that can limit the speed of the drive, even the speed at which the tray ejects. Dunno about NEC, but you can poke around their website perhaps?
