I was just wondering...I have seen two Lord of the rings games. One looked like a RTS and the other looked like WoW. Are these the same two games?

the rts is battle for middle earth 1 and 2. Good rts

the mmo is Lord of the rings : online and lord of the rings : online mines of moria.

there is also lord of the rings : conquest wich is ''like'' star wars battlefront.

three completely different games

No. Lord of the rings Online is an MMORPG, the other game is Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth (RTS). Atleast thats what I can remember for the RTS name, haha.

edit - arr4ws beat me to it :p

but you both agree that all are great games? I'm not into Wow, but the LOTRO looks pretty cool....and I LOVE Company of Heroes, and a lot of other RTS's..so the LOTR battle for middle earth is awesome too?

I've been playing LOTRO for almost a year and would recommend it to anyone looking to dive into the Tolkien Universe. The people are friendly, there is always someone willing to help out a new players, and I haven't run into any problems while playing the game. It also looks beautiful in the High Res DirectX 10 mode if you have the hardware to run it.

BTW, if you join now you can play for $9.99 a month by using the 3 months for $30.00 pay plan they are promoting.

I finally see they have a free trial also....might have to finally look at this title.

Yeah I think I am going to download this when I get home today...was into WoW until like lvl 15 then it got old

Leveling in LOTRO is nice, but there's jack squat for endgame.

Meh I am more interested in the journey then the destination now. I want EQ 3 TBH but LOTRO will keep me entertained for now. I dont think I would wipe my ass with the box art from WoW at this point.

I tried LOTRO. I found it to be addicting, but not fun.

imho, it's just another WoW, WAR, AoC.
If you enjoy leveling in those games, you'll like LOTRO. If you enjoy hardcore endgame content you should probably look at something else.

Good game, good price, and good community (Gladden) from what I've experienced so far.

Kind of how I feel. Once I start it I find myself stuck to it but I'm not really feeling to much fun factor. Its more mildly entertaining. I keep thinking it will get better once I get to a higher lvl such as 20. I guess 4 years of getting ganked by the horde in WoW (while I hated it) gave me a kick in my adrenaline glands due to the unexpected attacks. In LoTHO I'm just running around following a quest arrow.

You might give FFXI a shot. It's a much older MMO and I think they are giving out free trials. It's by and far a different kind of MMO. It's not for A.D.D. 13 year olds. Not that I'm saying any other MMOs are, I'm just saying. And there is almost limitless endgame content, easily 2 years no matter how hardcore you are.

I don't want to derail this thread, but I feel that my advice may be worth the consequences.

I was involved in FFXI for a considerable amount of time (measured in years). When I think back on it, the first things that come to mind are mindless farming, mindless skilling of trades (fishing/cooking/etc), sitting mindlessly to battle bots for drops, logging in and out of mules, waiting for parties, finding bad parties, looking for new parties, waiting...waiting...etc. The most exciting part of the daily grind was tweeking macros. It had some glimpses of good too - the first time you'd enter a new area or played a new mission, but for the most part was rinse and repeat. I'm amazed it held my attention for as long as it did.

Needless to say, I would not recommend following in my path. Sure, give it a try; but I wouldn't recommend playing it with the hopes of enjoying the journey to the end game, or for that matter putting up with the journey in hopes of an endgame you will enjoy.

I enjoyed my time. I found people I liked to hang out with for endgame so I enjoyed the social aspects of it while waiting for a HNM to pop or removing every mob from a dynamis zone. I also enjoyed raising my crafting skills (93 Smithing when I quit).

Waiting for parties, bad parties, trying to get a damn teleport some days those weren't as much fun.

I loved FFXI. It was hard, it took time and it weeded out the weak. I really miss communities of people that cut out those who behaved badly. With most MMO now you just ROFLCOPTER I fucked you over. In games like FFXI and EQ you were excomunicated in a matter of hours for screwing folks over.

I agree for the most part with this poster. I played FFXI for something like 2+ years, there is lots of mindless farming and skilling up of trades, which you can easily do while you wait for parties. But thats the problem... a lot of times even with a popular class you can sit around for hours without getting a decent party. Eventually you run out of things to do while you wait and you get frustrated and log out. Soloing in the game is unbearable, but once you got a stacked party it sure was a lot of fun working on getting the xp chain and figuring out the best skill chains.

Qualtiy,
I'm sorry but seems I threadjacked this thread by mentioning FFXI, hope you don't mind it looks like your question was already answered.

One of the best parts of FFXI. The assholes weren't there.

I'm not sure there is anything as fun as a god-geared merit party. Insane XP, killing most mobs in 20 seconds or less, having your brds pull links so you have enough mobs, pulling from all 3 levels of the bird camp. Man I miss that :(

No Problem dude,

Thanks for everyones replies...i'm threadjacked a time or two so its all good.

LOTRO is a gorgeous mmorpg with DX10 enhancements... leveling is a good pace but I always seem to get bored with my characters at about level 40... not sure why but oh well... it's still a lot of fun while I am into it though.. and did I mention it's pretty? yeah... it's very polished and there's a lot to do with crafting and hobbies... the land is fun to explore and the community is very mature for an mmorpg...

Yeah I think I am going to download this when I get home today...was into WoW until like lvl 15 then it got old

Then you barely played WoW.

WoW only gets good at the end-game.. then you realize it's the same thing over and over, unless you like PVP.

It was fun for awhile... but it does get old. I quit at 77 ... and IDK if I'll go back...

Stop it or you will make me want to play it again LOL

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask in this one and hope for some answers :p

I've played LOTRO to around level 10 before going back to WoW (because of friends and their guild). I enjoyed the game for what it was. It doesn't try to be WoW in that it is more story-driven, and I like that about it because that can be very relaxing.

The reason the game really appealed to me was its amaaazing scenery. I'm thinking of coming back to the game for that reason. I want to know - can I expect even more great scenic areas venturing past level 10 and higher? I care more about the experience of the game than endgame, so since I've never been through all the levels I figure even if endgame might not be appealing, the experience of going through all these great looking zones might be worth it in itself.

I'm playing it for the scenery and for the pace. Still play on occasion EQ2, but find LoTRO has a more relaxing pace and it's nice to just enjoy the scenery and the story rather than race to whatever endgame is there.

ITZ A TRAP!!!!
LOL I KNO!!!!!!!

Same with any MMO really. You go through periods of grind to achieve something you may really want. It is addicting, I do miss not playing it and staying up to speed. Damn MMO's.

WoW gets boring at the endgame. For some reason an MMO puts people into a different mindset about a game... they don't have that thing where they say to themselves "I've seen and done it all, so I'm going to stop playing". I saw all the content in WoW, so why would I continue to play it? I don't go to the zoo every day to watch the animals over and over again. I didn't finish Mass Effect and then go back and kill the end boss over and over. So why would I want to do it in an MMO?

And sure, they add content, but that's a slow, painstaking process and need I remind you that you are PAYING for it. WotLK was released last November, they didn't release 3.1 until APRIL. That's five months for one dungeon that the hardest of core finished in like 3 days. Even the average endgame players saw it and did it within the past month. And don't give me the achievements, the hard modes or any of that crap as an excuse. That stuff is MEANINGLESS and the sooner you realize the sooner you might come to the conclusion that playing WoW is not an addiction, but rather more of a sociological tweak in your brain.

Here's the thing. I've been playing MMO's for about 9 years. In that time I've taken blocks of time off, but I find that I really enjoy having some progression to work towards. I had my dark days like a lot of folks where I played for too many hours, but I've scaled it back to acceptable levels for a guy my age and responsibility level and now it's a thing of beauty. My first level 80 has done, as you said, everything there is to do. I've found however that I really enjoy the progress in a different role now, so I'm exploring the world all over again, finding things I missed the first time around. It's great. There's nothing wrong with this style of gaming if you enjoy it, but there's also nothing wrong with changing games each time you finish one. It's all a matter of preference. Don't be so quick to judge everyone who plays WoW.

but I find that I really enjoy having some progression to work towards

That is one of the reasons I like MMOs. Sucks when you get to that point where the only gear left to get will take you 3 hours a night 6 nights a week for a year to get. I said screw it as I realized if I got the gear I wouldn't have anything to do with it as I'd already done everything else.

You haven't even begun to see the best parts. Go back. :)
