I got bored this weekend and decided it would be a good idea to use my ASUS P6X58D Premium's MyLogo feature, such a bad idea. I totally wasn't thinking about losing my BIOS settings or any possible trouble with the RAID array, needless to say it didn't boot right back into windows.
I reset the hard drives to RAID from IDE and then used ctrl+i to get into the Intel Raid controller menu and my RAID 0 array was still listed as healthy and bootable. However the raid array no longer appears in the BIOS boot options menu like it use to and when I boot I get a GRUB Error 17 message. In fact the two drives are listed separately in the BIOS hard drive manager despite being set to RAID. I have been trying to get a dual boot Ubuntu + Windows 7 set up going but I gave up and deleted the Linux partitions and tried the Wubi route, which wasn't working anyway, so that is probably where the GRUB error is coming from.
I ran the Ubuntu live cd and it found the raid array and can access it, right now I am backing up all of the files to my 1TB drive through a USB controller because oddly the 1TB drive would not appear when connected through the motherboard. I didn't do an image because I figure it will have the same problems.
I plan on putting in the Windows DVD next and try and do a repair on the partitions, any ideas if this will work? I'd like to just nuke GRUB for now and go back at it after I figure this out and get a better back up system going. The only think I don't know about is why the BIOS can't find the array but Ubuntu can. If I can't set it to boot I'm screwed either way, even if the Windows DVD recovers the MBR, right?
