Lost Planet Lock-ups/Graphical Glitches

Hey I'm playing the DX9 version of Lost Planet (specs below)

Everytime I start the game I get a little bit into the action, but eventually my graphics lockup somehow, or the game freezes, or something happens that eventually forces me to alt-f4. I think it is graphically related, and I know the problem can be fixed using options in the menu (as I have got the demo to work properly), I'm just not sure how.
Can anyone help?

Putting concurrent operations to 1 and turning off concurrent rendering seems to help, although I have no clue what it means.

I've been playing in windowed mode so its alot easier to alt-f4 after a lock-up (at 1024x780)

I've got most settings at high, except HDR, Shadow Quality, and Shadow Resolution all at medium.

Anyone help?

Update:
hate to bump this again folks
but i found what the problem is, if anyone else is having trouble

turns out it was my audio settings, i had to turn reverb quality off!
