This morning I removed my Hard Drives to place them into a new drive rack/cooler I picked up.

When I powered back up, one of my storage drives (an IDE drive) was not showing up in BIOS or in Windows. After re-flashing my BIOS, re-installing IDE drivers and completely rewiring my PC, still nothing.

So I dropped the drive into an external USB enclosure and sure enough, it is not being recognized as a drive.

This drive held a ton of stuff I do NOT want to lose. Does anyone have any advice on measure I can take for data retrieval?

The drive holds my music collection, downloaded installs from over the years and all my smut!

Lost it? Did you try checking your pants pockets? thats where i always leave my disks. :D

Anyways, theres quite a few freeware/shareware drive restore apps (spinrite comes to mind, but you'll get what you pay for) and professional data recovery will cost a few hundred just to get them to look at it and say its fried. If they can get anything back, it would be ridiculously expensive to restore it. usually in the thousands.

Ok, thanks to my Linux box, I recovered ALL of my music from my iPod!!

As for the smut, I have years to build the collection back up.

Aside from that, everything else was either backed up, freely available online, or I shouldn't have had it anyway...

:D

The few things (like my Turbo Tax files) that are irreplaceable are at least re-creatable..........

The drive is in my freezer overnight (I heard this might work for recovery purposes). Otherwise, I am out a 250gb HD. It's replaceable! :)
