Hmm, lost the 'teen' boxen from my current sig. I'm guessing it was ESD from him scuffing his feet across the carpet before plugging in his iPod to the USB, but whatever. Won't startup properly and won't post even if forced on and there is no heat around the CPU socket so either the mobo or CPU is toast (swapped out PSU, RAM etc.) I'm on a budget for now so was thinking of switching in a i3 2120 and B75 chipset mobo. Already have 4 GB of DDR3 1600 laying around so its an easy job. What kinda ppd do you think I'll see outta this? It's the only rig in the house which is shut off so it typically sees 14-16 hrs a day for folding/gen purpose. I could give him my Q6600 but would then have to rebuild my WHS which is a chore but the ppd for the Q6600 has sloped down in the last while so its not the sacrifice it once was. Which would YOU do ?

out of an i3.. probably around what the phenom II x6's do stock. i'd just look around craiglist see what you can find thats worth a damn first.. can find some surprising deals on there. maybe even find a cheap replacement board for that system.

sounds like he shorted out the USB hub and maybe the chipset. but before you write off the entire system.. try removing the cmos battery, unplug the PSU and leave it that way for a few hours, then plug it all back in and see if it starts up. i had this problem with another older system and i've seen other people have this problem on the forum fix it doing what i said above. so it may or may not work for you but worth a shot.

Tell him to stop dragging his feet while walking.

Wait, that was not one of the options posed by OP. ;)

thx guys but I already tried unplug and remove CMOS btty (I'm a PC tech on the side) still wont post. I think its a goner but I'll throw it on the junk shelf and try it again if/when I stumble across another S775 CPU. same ppd as a stock X6 ? not too shabby,. maybe I'll tell the kid hes gotta leave it on 24/7 ;)

update: i3 it is! sorry 'monkey, only about half ppd of my X6 but stompin the Q6600 right now and way less heat and power draw too. Nice cheap and easy boxen.
