I woke up at 5pm (cause i work nights) and noticed my three E5530 systems all offline.

My Server Room Air Conditioner was also off. Looks like the power when out here for a few seconds. Sadly those three systems are not on a UPS .... yet.

When I built those systems, my budget did not allow any left for some rack mount UPS but i think i need to get those ASAP.

Our power seems to "flicker" at least once every 1-3 days.
Seems being the last customer on the line of the power company has some draw backs!


Here is what I am looking to get - unless someone has a better suggestion!

Speaking of h/w trouble - we've had spotty issues in our house the last week with the Netgear WNR834B routers we've been using. Today it got worse when for no reason I was having issues seeing shares across the network (which therefore really screwed up my HFM clients); tonight I decided I'd had enough when my internet did what it's done lately which is DLDLDL...........................[dies]...............................DLDLDLDLDL...........[dies]........ Initially I had issues, so I figured it was the stock f/w and I installed DD-WRT. *Still* had issues, same ones, eventually.

I finally said f it. I couldn't yank those power cords out quick enough and put my trusty Linksys products back. (WRT54G+BEFSR41) Back up and running now, no problems...par for the course, my experience with Linksys. I will NEVER buy another Netgear product again. :mad:
 
I lost a hole day from a burned up mother board. but im back in action tonight.
 
EA re: your question -
I am a diehard APC fanboy; I freely admit.
Granted I just use surge protectors, but they are all APC. Where I work, all our battery backups are APC. If I ever get around to getting some for the house, they'll be APC.

I don't know much about CyberPower or the other few companies out there putting out battery backups...but I know for me at least, I will only buy APC products. :)
 
I lost half a day's work today as well, because the weather was shitty this morning and the power went out for several hours. Unfortunately, a UPS wouldn't help me much there...

As for your UPS question, I'd go with the APCs.

lol i could of told ya that.. :D i got a stack of netgear routers with tons of issues.. 1 all the hard line lan ports are dead.. other one only transfers at 300kB/s across all ports.. other one the wireless died on it.. and the last one which im still using now only has 1 working port which isnt a big deal since i have my switch connected to it and all my computers connected to the switch.. so far ive had better luck with airlink101(which is considered the cheapo brand) then any other routers..

What do you think of D-link and Linksys?

Not much you can do when the power goes out for extended time, but the times the power goes out for a few seconds/minutes...
 
I run a couple of 1500va Cyberpower UPSs and they work great. I also have several APC UPSs and they are nice also. I don't believe you can go wrong with either brand.
 
I have 2 Cyberpowers and about 5 APCs around the house. 3 of the APC are little ones for misc. stuff around the house. So far the Cybers have worked fine, about 9 months now. They are actually the model you were looking at.

As for routers, I agree Netgear has gone to complete shit. D-Link and Linksys, in my opinion, it completely depends on the model. They both have great ones, good ones, and shitty ones.
 
I think Sunin was running a bunch of those Cyber Power UPS's. I would HIGHLY suggest you check out the prices at Buy.com for them as historically (I've looked at them myself) they were lower at buy.com versus the 'egg.

If you can find some refurb's of these, that would be an even better deal.

Linksys make the best consumer-grade networking equipment. D-Link is decent these days, but I've had a ton of problems with their products in the past.

Liar!!!

I have had terrible experience with every linksys product i have ever owned.
On the other hand I have had zero issues with my dlink equipment.:)

BTW my UPS showed up today:)
now i just need to figure out how to mount the thing.

Me too. I had to ditch a DL router a couple of years ago and it had barely a year of use.

I've had at least half a dozen pieces of D-Link hardware fail on me. I've never lost a piece of Linksys equipment.
