Losing Signal After Windows Load Screen..Need Help!

Ok, so I upgradeD to the RIG in my SIG and I kept my same ~4 year old 17'' flat panel compaq monitor model # FP 7020 (Yeah I know its old but dont laugh). My problem is I lose my signal after the windows load screen. It says "searching for signal" then the screen goes to sleep. On my analog port on my previous 6800gt everything worked fine, but I had a problem with the monitor losing the signal on the DVI port in the way listed above. Now with my new X1800XT which has 2 DVI ports, I had to use DVI and after the windows load screen my monitor lost signal again so I had to borrow a CRT monitor. Is there something wrong with my monitor? Will it not accept DVI? Do I need a new monitor? If so, I am very interested in the dell 20" lcd's? Whats the cheapest I could get one of these or a great alternative?

Got any suggestions about this issue?

The only thing that comes to mind is maybe there's a wonky refresh rate setting that's carried over.
 
Try booting into safe mode and see if that works. If not try the other DVI port and try safe mode again.
