THe ide cable wont stick in the hdd. any ideas for a quick fix? I can hold the cable in, but when I let go, the computer loses the connection. What do i do short of buying a new cable?

tape? i dunno...never had that problem

id say just buy a new cable...they're pretty cheap

get new IDE cable, or use electrical tape to tape it on.

best bet: new cable before you break your drive or computer with it going in and out while turned on. doubt your motherboard supports hot swapping... so dont try it...

clear your cmos... if that doesn't fix it, it's the ide cable or HD :p probably the cable
