Looking to upgrade.

Looking to upgrade from an xp2400 to this. See any problems? What kind of speeds do you think I can get out of it? Any info on the ram? Seems like a good deal.

Memory timings looks good. My only concern would be with the MB the Abit AI7 is not a really good overclocker. Would be a problem if your looking to overclock it. If not no big deal on the AI7, abit is a good choice.
As far as speed, I take it you mean in gaming. Newer games depend more on the video card power and on board memory (ie 256mb is better than 128mb) than they do cpu.

But with an Intel setup you want to be over the 3.0GHz mark to take advantage of a high end video card.

with speeds I did mean overclocking. Was reading up on the motherboard and people seem to overclock with it rather easy. If not this one any others? I was also thinking about the abit max3.

Get an 875 motherboard. I have an IS7 and regret it now, even though it goes to a not-too-shabby 283/226

IC7-MAX3's are hard to come by these days. But the P4C800-E Deluxe is easy enough to find and is a solid overclocker. As is the MAX3, it's just finding one might be an issue right now. Personally if I were buying a new system right now or at least a new motherboard and CPU I'd buy a i915x board and a LGA775 processor. 915 boards have the option to run with DDR 1 or 2 depending on the model of board. So you can use cheaper ram, then later upgrade your ram and board for 1066FSB or DDR2 and then use your old CPU.

It just seems to me that is the best way as it allows you to upgrade in stages as newer technology emerges.

The above statement is only true if you've got a lower end video card, and wish to upgrade to at least a mid range card in the form of PCI-Express. If you have a high end card than upgrading to PCI-E now is expensive no matter what you do.

thanks for the info. Just got out of surgery so I'm just now getting to respond. I have a 9700pro right now and would like to hold off a bit for the vid card purchase. I was thinking about the route you suggested too. SO many choices :)

I would like to spend between 500-600 for the upgrade. Can you help a post op guy out....:D

that PDP memory is good stuff at stock speeds (last set I got actually had faster timing than they were marketed as) but I hear it doesn't have a whole lot of OCing headroom...
