Ok so last time I built anything was about 4 years ago when I built what I'm using now....an Athlon XP 1900+, It's gotten me this far, but I'm starting to get really bogged down. So I'm looking to upgrade. At first I still had my previous bias of using only AMD...until I actually took a look at conroe. Needless to say, I've decided to go intel. Can u guys critique my choices below:

E6600
Asus P5W-DH
2Gb Gskill or OCZ memory
Evga 7900GT
Antec P180B
X-Fi Platinum
WD, or Seagate 320GB

I plan to overclock, hopefully to the 3.0-3.4 range. Do I need to look into another HSF besides stock? And also, how much of a difference am I going to see once I upgrade...is it going to be jawdropping insane?

And yes, don't use the stock heatsink, esp. if you wanna overclock. Doesn't give good cooling.

Get a artic feerzer 7 pro.

Oh, and a seagate hdd is best.

Yes, it'll be jaw dropping awesome, as long as you reformat your windows :p

I had a overclocked pentium d, better then your machine, with a 7600gt... It runs things well, but conroe blows it away.

Should I go for the 7900GT or the x1900xtx? I've been looking at both, and can't really decide, but there seem to be deals floating around for both.

always used nivida cards in the past, just got a 1900GT (1900xt with one quad disabled) , dont really care for it, mainly its the catylist drivers and the stupid weird overclock utility, the card is ok looks great on the screen, performs good, overclocked pretty good, but you have to load .net framework to run ATIs control center, talk about bloat. and the cooling on the atis dump the heat in the case !!!! and it runs hot hot damn hot, (till I watercooled it :)

(yes I know about the omega drivers)

no clue about the newer nivida cards could have a lot of same issues, dont know.

my 2 cents.
