Looking to upgrade my CPU

According to the cpu support list for that board, it will work with it. Also, they are having a 10% off promo today on Phenom II processors so I would say go for it.

Haha yeah man, well she's currently got a 2.5ghz e5200 wolfdale with a 512mb 4850 and 4gb ddr2 800. Not a bad little rig for her Sims 3 endeavors, but my pc is starting to dislike the things I'm doing to it, SC2, and such like that.

Anyway, I'm real excited about this upgrade. Just gotta settle on a monitor. Pretty well decided on this 69502gb card from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372
 
My buddy has that 6950, he loves it.
See if you can get your hands on a Phenom II 965 or 970, they will be cheaper and overclock exactly the same.
 
Any oppinions on the 960T? It seems like an inexpensive winner that might unlock to 6 cores.

Most people suggest buying what you need, so don't count on the unlock.

Holy crap that's perfect for me. I'm not worried much about overclock or unlocking, the potential/ability is nice, but a 3.0 quad is really a huge step up from my 3.0 dual :)

OH MAN you got me excited now.
 
Let's see what the experts think. I tried some research a few days ago and wasn't able to find much. It'd be interesting to hear some OC and unlocking statistics.
 
I have a 960T.. it really is one of the best chips you can get right now.... You have a (good) chance to unlock 2 extra cores, and even without the extra cores they will clock very high. I can get mine to 3.5 on stock voltage... requires a small voltage bump to go higher, but it clocks very well.
 
For my own refference, what would be a good budget board to go with it? I like ASUS and Gigabyte. I've owned MSI with decent results.

Edit: I game, program, surf the net, and media. I have a Corsair H50 and OC a little.

I have owned both a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H and still own an Asus M4A785-M

Both were very solid boards..

Is form factor a consideration? I use all matx board just because of our cases..

I don't know what budget you're looking at either... but if I was going ultra low budget for a 960T I would probably try this

It's just a personal preference though.. I've owned a couple of gigabyte boards recently and they have both been great... Asus too.
 
Thanks for the advice. I prefer full ATX because I have a few cards that aren't always installed, but I'd like the option. Are the 700's series chipsets capable of unlocking? Maybe it's time to head to Google and figure out the differences.
 
The one I linked does. They say ACC somewhere as a feature for advanced core calibration.

Both of my 7 series mobos were capable of unlocking.
