I build my new pc last weekend using the PSU in my sig. So far it has been great, except i've noticed that the fan makes a ticking sorta of noise when my pc is idle. I have read some reviews and other people have been saying the same thing. In that case, I am looking at a replacement.

For around $130, which modular PSU would be best?

Thanks

Unless you feel a compelling reason to spend that money, I'd check the fan first.;)

What should I look for?

Look for something rubbing on the fan like a cable/cable tie. Or it can be something loose inside the PSU case, in which case take the PSU apart to get a better look.

Otherwise I thought I heard of a Deal on PCP&C 750. Check that option too

Don't try the Neopower. Get the BFG MX-680 instead:
BFG Tech MX 680 680W Modular PSU - $100

Also, are you sure that the PSU is DOA? Did you try the paperclip trick with a hard drive or fan attached? Did you make sure that all the power connectors were connected? Did you make sure that power switch is set to ON?

When I swtiched it to on, i can hear a high frequency noise. But when I press the power nothing happens. But for some reason, my mobo's LED light comes on.

Whats this trick?

EDIT: Whats wrong with the Neo Power?

Is it pretty quiet?

Apparently so:
The BFG MX series differs from the LS series in that the single 120mm fan in the LS series is augmented in the MX series as an 80mm "helper" fan. The hybrid fan design like this may make some users a bit nervous about the sound level of this unit but this fan is meant to only run once the temperature sensor it is attached to reaches 50c which should help negate its contribution to the units noise profile. For most cases, 50c is going to be on the upper end of temperatures that enthusiasts are going to experience if their chassis is at room temperature (25c) however this temperature range was easy to achieve with our setup as ambient is 45c +/-1c. As such, through 75% load the MX series matched the noise profile of the LS series and was very quiet. As we moved to the Torture Test the 80mm fan was clearly on and seemed as if it may have been adding to the noise level of our environment. Then during the full load Test #4 the 80mm fan was also on, and was definitely adding noise to our testing environment. It was not initially particularly loud in our setup, but it was definitely adding to the mix as the temperature and noise increased through Test #4 at 100v in particular. Overall though, in the majority of its power output range the 80mm fan was a non-issue and the majority of users would be unlikely to ever get conditions right for the unit to ever become "noisy."

I'll try the trick and see what happens.

I checked Newegg and it seems the Neo Power is on sale for $99.

Danny linked you to that in one of his posts above. However, to repeat myself, the MX-680 is still better. No reason to get the Antec when the BFG unit is identically priced and superior in both wattage and overall output quality.
