ok over a year ago u bought an amd 2800+with an asus i think the name is a7n8x mobo or something to that extent. i watercooled it and had it running at about 2.6Ghz but for all the money i put into it i just wasnt all that happy. my watercooling system broke yada yada. i bought a zalman heatsink/fan and im running at like 2.2Ghz or something not that great.

so i was thinking maybe id change my set up. and give this amd set up to my cousin in mexico when i go to see him for christmas if the change is worth it.

ive been looking and i noticed some numbers on the p4 2.4c's that have been overclocked have made over 3Ghz... i was astonished. i then went online and found that used 2.4c's on ebay go for pretty cheap. and also the abit IS7, IC7, or IC7-G mobos arent that pricey either. do they all have RAID? what about pci-e? if not wich ones do, or which one is best and why?

also
with just a heatsink/fan what can i OC to? the reason id want to do this exchange is to maybe hit about 3Ghz or around there. and if i can do so on just heatsink and fan that could be great.
i already have 1 gig of corsair xms RAM that will be going in if that makes a difference...

so overall im just wondering if anyone thinks this is worth it or not.
and if so just a few Qs about how to put this all together

3ghz is pretty common with 2.4C's. Some people even pull 4ghz+ out of the newer 775 chips. You can't compare an Intel chip to an AMD one based on clock speed alone though, that's why AMD rates their CPUs with 2500+ etc. Even though your cpu may be operating at 2.2ghz or "3200+", gaming performance would be close to an Intel CPU running 3-3.2ghz.

And to answer your question, no socket 478 board will have PCI-E, and all of the motherboards you mentioned have SATA Raid, the IC7 lacks onboard LAN though.

A good 2.4C can punch out 3.6ghz or more, I'd say most of them will do 3ghz at stock voltage and a lot of em will do 3.2ghz or so. But I don't think you'd see any performance increase compared to the setup you're running now.

I recommend 1.6LV Xeon. Mine are running at 3.0 right now easy.

i guess your right ill just stick with what i got then. maybe ill look into overclocking my vid card

On the other hand, you'd see a nice speed boost if you switched over to Athlon 64. Just be sure to get a motherboard with an AGP/PCI lock. I'd shoot for 2.4ghz or more.

no cause my mobo doesnt support xp... so i have to get a new mobo and a new cpu.. overall i just need to try and work with what i have for the next year atleast. then just upgrade again
