Hey all, I'm having some problems hooking up a turtle beach headset to my tower, and I'm not 100% sure why. The front audio jacks are all hooked up, and should be good to go. I was toying with Realtek, but that software just makes issues bigger...

I'm running all my outputs through an hdmi cable to a receiver, which then hooks up to my tv, and I don't think that's the issue. The problem is when I plug in the headset, all I get is the static and noise from the computer itself, having only an onboard sound card. My question, therefore, is one concerning a product sold by turtle beach.

I'm thinking this is the answer to my problems, and I've already ordered it.. but I'm looking for some insight into what the actual issue is. I know the headset works fine, I tried it on my laptop, but when it's hooked up to the PC I get the static, and very faint music (i was playing itunes to try to configure it) I only got music out of one side for some reason, and while I don't think this in itself is an issue, I'm again looking for an explanation as to why this would be happening?

Does the headset work when you plug it into the jacks on the rear of the pc? If yes, then the front panel jack assembly is probably gone -- quite possible something is shorting to the chassis.
 
It doesn't, I've tried it in numerous configurations.. everything I've done has resulted in very poor results. The back panel is set up for 7.1 surround, and while it isn't in use, none of the attempts I made at it produced any better results. I was worried about the same thing, that the front might have been busted, but again the back panel has the same effect.
 
My next step would be to boot a Linux live-usb stick to definitively determine whether it's the hardware.
 
You're going to have to explain how to do that haha. Obviously I'm good with running it off a drive, I mean how to go about checking that out on linux
 
Do you get sound from the receiver ok?

If you plug the headphones into the socket for the rears do you get clear sound?
 
The rear ones I don't get anything from what I remember, my ports aren't labelled, so I tried each of the 6 haha. I've got an Intel DP55KG if it matters.
I get sound from the receiver fine, and again, it's all plugged in via a single hdmi
 
Sorry, was just making sure the hdmi to the receiver was working.

If you go into the sound control panel in windows and do the speaker test, you get no sound if you plug the headphones into the other sockets? Have you got another pair of headphones to try?

IF you don't. Then try installing the R2.70 drivers(or later) from the realtek homepage and see what happens.

Hey guys,
Sorry I've been really busy with things, and that extra piece I ordered from Turtle Beach has finally arrived!

Unfortunately, still no freaking sound! I've tried the usb in all my ports, can't get a thing.
Going into the control panel and testing the sound works fine, but I can't get itunes, borderlands, skyrim, or starcraft sound working on them!

Will try to install new Realtek drivers, and I'll report back.
 
Reinstallation of drivers has no effect either. It's so frustrating that it works during tests, but I can't hear any other audio!
 
Did you ever figure this out? I was using Realtek onboard sound on a Gigabyte board and I want to say it quit working after the 8.1 update.

When I test, the green bars move but no sound. It's all running through a single HDMI cable to my receiver.

I finally gave up and let the Nvidia card send the sound and let the receiver do the processing.

Weird.
