Here's the situation:

Built my first rig, which is in my sig, and it's all air cooling....runs good, can't complain. But, as with anyone who likes computers, faster is the word...and I plan on rebuilding soon, and going socket 939 I beleive....either that, or I might just swap out for a DFI board and a Newark chip. Either way, I want to get water cooling going....even if I don't upgrade and just keep my entire current rig. I'm running the Aspire X-Dreamer II case, which is pretty nice for a pre-modded case with room for more fans, etc. It does an alright job now, but if I get water cooling, I'd like something better....more notably a Lian-Li. Also, I don't really feel too comfortable building my own kit for water cooling, and I noticed the Exos system...but then I ran across both already blended together over at Xoxide:

http://www.xoxide.com/koolance-pc3-725bk-case.html

Now, I imagine water cooling is like anything else with computers, don't build it yourself, get flamed....and to be honest, I can understand the logic but if we can just avoid that, I'd appriciate it. Basically, I want to know how well the unit performs, and if it works well, would just be cheaper to get the two pieces seperately and have the Exos sit on top of the Lian Li?

The main reason I like this unit (altho the price hurts) is the fact that the tubing comes directly in from the top without having to route the tubs thru a PCI slot not being used....and it's all contained. I just don't know how the unit gets filled/bled, etc.

If this is a terrible mistake, tell me which direction I should go. :p I've read the stickies/alot of the posts, and water cooling seems like a big pill to swallow. Basically, for Athlon64 754 and 939 setup. If it has to be specific, I'll just get the block for both of the sockets...and I don't plan on water cooling the GPU at first either, this is mainly for the CPU.

Thanks

{H} did a review a couple months ago of the same Koolance setup in a different case http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NzE1

One thing to consider if you make your own setup is that since you are willing to pay more than $100 for your setup, you can have everything contained inside your case period. Setting everything up yourself isnt too hard, just cut tubing for the lengths you want, slip the tubing over each barb & tighten a hose clamp over each connection, then start pouring liquid into your reservoir/inlet to your pump, fill up your loop & leak test, then mount everything inside & be happy :)

Look on overclockers.com under watercooling tips for more advise, you really can put together a much better performing setup yourself for much less. Just remeber these WC time proven tips: 1/2" tubing is free additional flow over smaller tubing (more flow=more cooling), measure twice, cut once, always leak test, you can mount your radiator on the intake/outtake fan or the top of your case, and have fun.

Well the case you are referring to is actually a standard Lian-Li V1000 case that the folks up at Koolance America take a jig saw to. It is the Koolance EXOS II unit without a bottom that has been screwed into the top of the case. Actually from the ones I have seen they didn't even bother to get rid of the jagged edges so watch your fingers

I would consider getting the external unit or figuring out how to reverse the fans so cool air is brought into the radiator instead of exausting heated air through the top of the case. If you decide to get the case then you should consider not using the coolers made by Koolance except the CPU-300-V/H-10 series as they just create problems.

I know you would like something "pre-built" but I strongly suggest going for a kit you can throw together for alot cheaper and perform better. I'm sure you've heard this from countless people, but that is so because it is the better route to take. You get more upgradability options, etc, it's "future proof" blah blah blah. But, yes I really suggest getting a nice Lian-Li or anything you want and making a custom WC kit for it. You will be much more satisfied and it is a great project to do IMO.

As for your first question, the Koolance performs well and many people around here have them and like them. We don't flame about using Koolance, we save the flame for Tt! lol.

Well, Tt is garbage. :p Hmm...I'll have to do alot more reading and look into just building my own unit inside of a Lian Li....any suggestions on case/pieces? I definately want the side to have a clear panel because once I get this setup I want to show it off for sure. :p

Well, a Lian-Li V1200 is a good case I've read lol. If you just want to start off with watercooling your CPU and add a GPU block later this is what I suggest.

Danger Den RBX (754/939/940) - $52.95

Black Ice Pro II Radiator - $53.95

Hydor L35 Water Pump - $49.95 (Not the best, but it gets the job done. This is also what I'm running, maybe someone can give you a better suggestion.)

Danger Den Single 5 1/4" Bay Reservoir - $29.95 (So you can show off your wet-ness in a drive bay!)

ClearFlex 60 Tubing 1/2" ID 3/4" OD - $11.20

Zerex Super Coolant - $4.50

Total - $202.50

You could do alot better if you shopped around, and this is just a base list to start off. I'm sure you can find a better pump, or if you want you can just not use a bayres and use a T-Line.

If you got the scoots for a nice Lian-Li case then do yourself a favor and get an Aqua Computer setup. I'm not going to blow smoke up ya and tell you how it cools the greatest or that it is the cheapest because they are not. But if you want a totally cool looking rig that will cool your case to do just about whatever else can be done with normal H20 cooling gear then come on over to the dark side

There are literally dozens of cases and other info you can see on this forum, here at Sharka Corp, and at Aqua Computer Germany. Take a look and if you are interested I will come back and make some suggestions to give you a really painless starter setup. :D

Germany? Looking for more domestic solutions. ;) I'll look into Sharka Corp. tho.

Well the stuff is manufactured in Germany, but Sharka is the major importer of Aqua Computer gear. Last time I was there they had about 10 grand in inventory and more coming in every couple of weeks. :D
