So I have been using a AMD Phenom II X4 925 as my VM host processor for the last year and I am looking to upgrade to something beefy this time. So I have been thinking of using the following parts below. Would I run into any issues with them?

This will most likely be running Proxmox or Ubuntu with Virtualbox. I will be throwing them into an Antec Twelve Hundred or something similar.

10 of those views are probably mine.

Took a while for "VMH" to register - I'm not up on my acronyms.

You need to check the VMware HCL for the motherboard/CPU/NIC/controllers
you plan to use.

At the price you are paying, I'd be looking at a non-whitebox system
from HP/IBM/DELL ..... but then I noticed you may be outside the US and
pricing for outside the US may be incredibly high from those MFGs.
I purchased 2 PowerEdge T110's and maxed the memory to 16GB on each
for about the same amount you will pay for what you have in that cart.

See ..not much help ..... which is why I kept viewing but not responding.

Hopefully my reply will provoke someone else to respond.

EDIT - saw your VM type at bottom this time ... don't know about V-box

Unless you intend to have your VMs Folding or some other highly CPU intensive application, the 8 cores paired with 16GB of RAM is out of whack.

Most of the time you're going to run out of RAM long before CPU. Next up is typically available IOPs and throughput on your storage.

If you don't need the CPU horsepower, go with a 4 core and invest money in more RAM or a PCI-E dual port Intel NIC so you have more network ports available to experiment with.

Thanks for all the input. I have to put this project on hold. So I now have lots of time to do more research.
