I have had a dual 1Ghz P3 for awhile now, and have just used it as a general purpose video encoding and file storage box. I am currently renting a room in a house with 3 other people, all who enjoy using the internet a lot. We have a linksys router set up that we all share, but it will reboot about 10 times a day(from what I understand, this is due to not enough memory in the router to handle the traffic).

So if more memory is what is needed, I want to setup my spare system to serve as the router on top of it's file server use.

Now, I have been using window's dynamic disk to span a volume across 3 hard drives since I'm too poor to get a raid card. Is there any way I can run a JBOD through software like in windows on linux?

So, in short I am looking for possibilities for a linux distro that can handle firewall/routing as well as some sort of software spanning. Any help would be greatly apprecated.

slackware can do it.

I run CentOS which is a Redhat Clone

run IP masquerading with iptables, acting as a gateway for my home network. runs great!

many resources on internet to help you set it up also.
