I just put together a brand new rig minus a new monitor and speakers, so those are definitely what my next investment are going to be in. I've been hearing good things about the Logitech Z-5300's and they're only $135 which makes them an attractive product to me. My current sound card is an Audigy ES. Would I see any noticeable increase in the quality of the sound if I were to upgrade to an Audigy 2 ZS, or would I be ok with getting these speakers and keeping the Audigy I have right now?

Get new speakers.

You might also consider the Chaintech AV-710 if you want a high quality stereo output. It's less than $30 at newegg.

i'd agree with clown, if you really only want to spend $135 then get one of the systems he's mentioned. I can't comment on any of them directly but from what i've read Swans are fantastic speakers(or at least the M200's are). The klipsch are well..they are the klipsch everyone knows about them. Altec lansing has really disappointed me in the last few years. They used to be the big name in multimedia sound along with Cambridge but all of their recent stuff I've heard has been disappointing. Like I said though I haven't heard any of the models mentioned.
If you want, as you say "more advanced sound" then you might consider saving up for a higher end set of speakers, or perhaps buy a set of the Rocket Tykes(http://www.av123.com/products_product.php?section=stock&product=38.1) that I continually hear about. The b-stock ones are going for $199, whcih i understand is rediculously low. However you'll need a receiver which will definately push the price over your current budget.

Just a side note; if you're really interested in playing Doom 3 in something that approaches full glory, look into the 5.1 systems. Wishing I hadn't sold my Promedia's to my friend now...
