Looking for video card decision help.

Hi I'm new to the forums. I am looking to setup a new system and right now my only choice is what video card to get. I'll try and lay everything out so as to allow everyone to help as much as possible.

Right now this is the equipment im looking at minus video card of course and with a variant on the mother board, which I will explain.

Case:Cooler Mast HAF x 942

Mobo: Gigabyte G1 Sniper 3 OR Asrock z77 extreme 6

CPU: I5-2500k

RAM:Gskill Ripjaws X 16gb (4 x4gb)

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950w

Storage: 3 1TB WD caviar Black 7200 rpm(the plan is to raid 5 them to prevent data loss from a drive failing)

Monitors: 3 Asus ve276q 27" monitors.(i plan to do 5760X1080)

I have never hooked up sli or xfire before. So my first question is about the g1 sniper. Can i place cards in say the 1 & 4 (16x/16x) or the 1 & 3 (8x/8x). I am only wandering this to try and create some space to better cool the cards. If that is not possible I would purchase the AsRock

I also chose not to have a ssd. They seem to provide minimal benefit when it comes to gaming(which i primarily do). The load times appear to be about 5-8 seconds faster, not that big of a deal. SSD only appear to accel in system start up and application use.

The Graphics card options I'm considering are GTX 670 sli/7970 Xfire/GTX 690

The only thing I'm wandering is which card is going to perform the BEST at the target resolution in high to ultra settings. I've read that nvidia is a smoother play (referring to micro stuttering) than the Xfire setup.

The other thing to consider is heat with the sli setups vs the gtx 690. Would the 690 do everything i want at a lower temp then other solutions?

Also I have seen in some benchmarks that the 7970 does better at a higher res then the nvidia cards. Is this actually true in real world performance and if I am to run at this high of a res is it something that should push me towards the 7970?

If i chose the 670 would it be best to pick a 4gb model?

Sorry i know the post is long but i thought throwing as much info out as possible would be the best idea.
