I have been searching the forum for the picture, but I am unable to find it and I don't remember who posted it.

Here is what it was: Someone set up a farm of naked mobo's stacked on top of each other with spacers. Blue lighted fans cooled the stack from the side. It is sweet looking and I am hoping to duplicate it.

If anyone has this or can find the post, I would appreciate it. :D

I am thinking that it was in a Farm thread, but I can't find it.

Those are good, but not exactly what was posted here. In fact, I believe that one of our team mates built it.

I just did a search of all his posts and I can't find it...I wonder if it didn't make the cut when the forums crashed last year?? :(

I like that second one....but I am thinking that it is Turmelle's setup that I remember.

How are the mobo locked to each other? What kind of spacers are they using? Are they just threaded tubing or something?

I think most of them are just threaded stock you can buy at home depot and the spacers are just nuts.

hmmm....HD is not that far from the house.
:D

I actually tried mcmaster....

Umm, threaded on the inside, like something that a screw could go into. Not threads on the outside that a nut can thread onto.

Am I being clear? It is late....

So you are just going to stack 2 at a time and want a solid rod with tapped ends?

well either that or if the rod is hollow, I can just cut it into pieces and load them on top of each other.

I have the original how-to site link:

http://home.comcast.net/~bturmelle/diskless.html

No pictures though, bummer.

Threaded rod was the base material, you can either use nuts and washers for spacing or the good old “Bic” pen tube trick, cut to length. Small diameter ABS or PVC tubing works equally well.

I recall his system had a fan at one end of each motherboard and one layer was for the PSU array.

Thinking this late at nite hurts ;)

I think rod was popular because it is so much more versatile and easy. Tubing would be a pain in the butt although it would look better.

I think your missing the point, the "rod" goes through the "tubing" for support. The tubing is simply the spacer. ;)

That's real easy then. The trick will only to be to get the tubing all the same length. Might want to put rubber grommets where it would touch the mobo to reduce vibration and have it seat better.

Turmelle's Pen Drive Garden Pics (56k warning!)

Link is via firefox if it doesnt work for you do this:
www.google.com
search for turnelle stack folding
then used the cached version on Pen Drive Garden as above!

Turrnelle gives a nice break out of all the parts to put his together. That was his first try. After that he went to 1 PS per board and switched to Fans on the heatsinks if I remember correctly.

also i found this and thought it was nice: Nice Stack

The Turmelle stack was created for art as a minimalist approach.
It's elegant use of Scotch (tape) greatly lowered assembly cost.
Spacing was provided by fans. Note the fans at both ends.
Unfortunately I don't remember which way the wind blows.

Sometimes you just have to know where things are.

Note the elegant use of particle board, showing no expenses were spared.

"Sure I did"

My son abandoned me and went with his friends yesterday to see the movie and he loved it. I am sure he will let me buy him another ticket so that I can go and have company and he can see it again this weekend.

Fold On!

Maybe we should try that with the guys at OCAU?

"These are not the boxen you're looking for"

.... of course there's always:

"That's no moon... That's Atmo's ass!!"

.... or...

"May the Force be with your boxen"

"When 900 boxen you control, earn these many points you will not, hrmph!"
