ok im running a Galaxy 9600 GT OC on a Dynex 400 watt PSU. i had a post on here before and was told to get the Antec earthwatts EA430 430W wich im ordering as i type.

my question is this the Dynex ive been using for about a month now on this card have i been hurting the card? i was told the dynex is really underpowered for this card so i just dont want to end up burning it up until i get my new PSU

No.

It won't hurt the card.
If your computer isn't crashing your fine.

You haven't described the rest of your system, so it's really hard to know if you are cutting it close on power or not.

Agreed, although the Dynex is not a name brand PSU does not mean your video card will get hurt or damaged.

It might be harming the card if the PSU is producing out-of-spec ripple, although the only way to determine that would be to monitor the outputs with an oscilloscope. It's definitely not a good idea to run a modern system on such a low-quality PSU, although you probably aren't loading the PSU too much so it's most likely okay.

Basically, there's a possibility that damage is being done, but it's a small possibility and the card is probably fine.

ok so ive been reading many reviews on my PSU and im actualy thinking its a bad choice. i even read the hardocp review and they said ditch it its a POS.

I want to order from newegg but i want to get something today. i called staples and they have the earthwatt 430 that was recommended to me for 79 newegg has it for 59

Looking at best buy they have a http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...upply&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1218045946501

would you recommend the PSU at all or should i just snag the antec 430

yeah unfortunatly bestbuy doesnt carry them instore online only. they have a few others such as a thermaltake blackwidow and stuff like that but i might just be hitting staples for the antec earthwatt 430

ok for my PC setup wich is this. Would you install the antec earthwatts 380 or the 430? one thread i had here said go with the 430 then they said it would run fine with the 380. im just so confused lol

I ran your basic specs through the calculator using a 4850w instead since the 4450 wasn't listed.

Your computer needs about 195w, your current Power supply is fine. Don't waste any money. It's just a bunch of people looking for e-penis bragging.

200W of load is about all that PSU can handle: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ5MSwzLCxoY29uc29sZQ==

And even then it's not a great idea. Getting a quality PSU isn't e-penis bragging, it's an intelligent course of action.

im just gonna snag an antec. to be honest i feel like im hurting my system. i noticed after a good amount of time playing my system starts to run very sluggishfor video performance and i have to reboot.

ive read alot of reviews in the past week or so that has made me very weary of the Dynex and i do play alot of hours of gaming between 10 and 12 hours a day and i dont want to hurt my system.

ok im gonna put a post on the forums and see what is selling what. to see if i cant get something better then the 380 for the same price.

thanks for all the tips and help. much appreciated.

one last thing i want to make sure i got this hooked up right. on my videoc ard there is a 6pin connector and on my PSU there is a 4 pin wich connected to the motherboard and a pin that fits into the video card. is that what the 6pin cable is for?

other then that with the dynex they gave me a adapter that plugs into the video card (same 6pin connector) but on the on are 4 pin molex connections. im not sure wich im supossed to use. ive tyred reading the manual but that was a waste of time since it doesnt tell u anything.

A bad PSU won't make your PC run slowly, but it still is a good idea to get a quality unit.

You can use either the hardwired 6-pin PCI-E connector or the molex to PCI-E adapter. However, it is generally preferable to use a hardwired connector if you have one, so the way you have it hooked up now is perfectly alright.

Yeah but he could probably throw his 250-300w stock power supply back in that doesn't suck.

Also those outputs are at case temps of 45c, his system with it's 45w cpu and 9600 video card are pretty lowe power consuptiom parts. If he has a decent case fan his case temps probably never get above 30c.

Yes having a good PSU is importand, but if you don't stress it hard and his system doesn't then it's just a waste.

If you are worred about the dynex (if they rated ita 250w PS it would probably pass all the test) just go back to stock, or just grab something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104901

Newegg is offering 10% off on all antec psus promo code "antpn" says it expires 7/16 so next thursday
brings the 380w down to 40 with fs shipping so a nice price, I would say thats your best bet, and gives you a "green" system with the 4450e and other parts
