Ok guys, I've read the sticky about OC'ing and read the related thread about RAM OC'ing, so I'm feeling fairly confident about attempting to overclock my system... But since I'm the kind of guy that would rather be safe than sorry, I wanted to get your opinions/suggestions before I start.

Here is what I'm working with:

AMD 3500+ (939)
Asus A8V Rev. 1
1GB Corsair CMX-3200XL RAM @ 2-2-2-5

I've already went into bios and looked around, and enabled everything to manual. I changed the FSB to 210 to try things out, with success. However, as I rebooted to attempt a higher FSB, I got the blue screen saying I had a BAD_POOL_*** something, which turned out to be a bad registry file that Windows repaired.

To cut to the chase, I was hoping you guys could give me some conservative figures to aim for tonight, as far as speeds, fsb setting, and the ram settings. Also, I wasn't able to see anywhere to setup FSB:RAM ratios such as 5:4 in my bios... The ones I remember it listing were 1:1 200mhz (DDR200), 5:3 166 (DDR333), and 2:1 200 (DDR400) <-- which I set it on.

I'm using a Thermaltake Silenttower as my hsf (yea i know :( ) and I idle 34C & hit 44C at load.

Without having the revision 2 board with the working agi/pci locks i, not sure exactly what results you will get. You can try increasing the FSB slowly, and then using a limiter based on your overclock to limit the ram speed. But resutls will vary.

I have the same CPU as you, and the board. But i am using revision 2. And i can run at 250FSB 100% stable @ 2.64 GHZ. Just start increasing the voltage/fsb speed slowly or use asus overclock utility if your not to familiar with overclocking and try like 5% first.

after much reading it appears i'm fucked for buying a v 1.02 board :(

i just meant that by being an early adopter of one of their new products, i end up at a lose in the long run.. if they had released the a8v's with a working pci/agp lock, then it would be a different story, but since they didn't i can't overclock now
 
does anyone know if Asus's later bios revisions enabled the pci/agp lock?

i plan on updating my bios this weekend and would like to be able to overclock without buying a new board! :(
