Offhand anyone know of any good 'small' speakers. I've got the bookshelf speakers from BestBuy, forget their name, and I like them, but they take up a lot of valuable desktop space. I'm wondering if I could find something that is much smaller but not crappy.

I've got a Virtue1 amp and a 12" sub, just looking for the bookshelf speakers.

These are a bit tall but very narrow. KEF HTS 5001

Some smaller JBL ones

Then there is Aperion's Intimus 4B's

For a tiny 5.1 (so long as you have a decent sub), you can check out Hsu Research's Ventriloquist

Martin Logan Motion 2 (how often can you get a Martin Logan for $200 per speaker?)

http://www.martinlogan.com/motionSeries/index.php

add the WAF-1s, Orbs and Axioms that others have mentioned onto the list and you have a few to look at.

There are many more. Prices are all over the place and can't say which is better.

Edit: Hmmmm.... I was considering getting Ushers in about a year but these Martin Logans look really interesting.
Edit 2: Whoops the Martin Logans are 4 Ohm speakers...I guess not for me and my Marantz receiver. Too bad. :p

True, if you want to get rid of your amp, then actives are another options including KRK Rokit 5's or V4's, MAudio AV40, Audioengine A2 as mentioned, and Adam A5s. Again prices are all over the place.

No budget listed? How about Paradigm Signature S1 (P-Be)? $1598/pair MSRP.

Very light pair of speakers (12lb/ea), very well dampened enclosures with very low resonances, smooth beryllium tweeter. Frequency response +/- 2db response from 65hz to 45KHz.

The Motion 2's are ML's in the same way the A class is a Mercedes. ;) They're surrounds and meant to be used as surrounds only which explains their appalling frequency response.

Lol yeah you're right. I hope Martin Logan is not going to trend down mainstream B*SE sort of route. I guess I will stick with getting the Ushers in about a year or so.
