I'm building my GF the system below and am looking for recommendations for a PSU. I am looking to achieve a mild overclock (4.5Ghz?) :

i5 2500k
P8P67 Pro
8GB G.Skill RipJaws
8800GTX
1 DVD-Writer
74GB Raptor - 500GB or 1TB storage

I was looking at the Antec Neo 620, the XFX 550w or the Antec Earthwatts 500. Do either of these fit the bill or do I need to go higher? The 8800GTX is not the most power efficient GPU but until I am guaranteed she is going to be gaming enough, I'm not gonna replace the card :p.

Thanks!

Your CPU, mobo, and Ram are not mid-range! That's overkill for your GF.

I would go with the Antec Neo 620, out of stock at the egg.
The Antec TruePower New TP-650 would be good alternative sale choice.
The Earthwatts EA500D is excellent.
The XFX 550, if its the seasonic build is also excellent.
What case are you using, the length and number of connectors might be the best way to decide.
Enjoy.

Lol...the raptor was my old drive. It's a hand me down so I'm saving money! Also, 8GB of RAM cost me $60...how can you go wrong?! And finally, the CPU was purchased at Microcenter on release day so it was something like $179? That's what I call shopping like a woman! :p

She used to game and since I'm a pretty big gamer, she wants to start up again. Therefore, I figured this should fit the bill nicely. I then get to use my old Q9450 system as an HTPC :).

Everyone wins!

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you can get a Seasonic X series on the cheap, that's what I would (and did) do. I have an I5 2500k with an H67 mobo and a GTX 460 and worst case power draw is like 220w at the wall, 147w during gaming. You could use an Earthwatts 380D with your setup. I beg to differ with the assertion that the I5 2500k isn't midrange parts... it's pretty much the definition of mid range.

There really is no meaningful upgrade from the 2500K for gaming, at least not yet.
The power supplies largely feed the GPU card frenzy.
The Z68 won't change that, and I expect Ivy Bridge is a year away. AS probably socket 2011.
Bulldozer...
