Totally missed this CPU coming out. Cheapest dual core I can find at around $140.

Can't find benchmarks, though.

It's no different from the other smithfields except for the probable bandwidth bottleneck which you can also probably fix by changing the multiplier/fsb. I say go for it.

Here's a thread I started without checking this one first.
 
I saw those benchmarks. They don't tell me how good it is at video encoding, nor does it help with CG rendering. Thanks anyway--

WOW, looks like its on par with a 950+.
It easily beat the 840 in every test at 3.7Ghz

THIS LOOKS LIKE A VERY NICE DEAL.... the only thing better would be if it was Presler based (65nm) instead of smithfield.(90nm)
 
On the STOCK cooler there's heavy overclocks to somewhere around 3.9? What the hell are the temps on this thing? It can't be anything like the other barnburner Pentium Ds.

Mature Stepping, that's all. AMD and Intel have been known to improve their Build Process over that Process' Lifetime.

What is a good, cheap pciE mobo for this cpu? As I might use it in the future for budget builds. :)
 
that guy is a mod. Anyway,I think the pentium 805 is good candidate for OC'ing, it must REALLY suck beyond belief at stock speeds, even the 820 was bad, but this is like a neutered 820.
 
When I first saw this, I thought "Finally, dual-core for everybody!" It may be relatively slow, but the fact it's 2 physical cores instead of 1 w/hyperthreading means it will still be relatively fast. And as I read elsewhere, "Everybody has a multi-threaded application -Windows XP!" If nothing else, it's pushing the multi-core down to where almost everyone can have it. Hopefully this will spur AMD to also compete at this level with dual-core. I wouldn't mind a 1.8Ghz dual-core Sempron with, say, 256KB cache per core. It would still rock.

o_O, a cheap intel processor that is "decent" (I used quotes for a reason). Question - can this be used on that ASUS mobo that can take any of the newer CPUS as long as they get a BIOS update? If so.. =)

Has any other site aside from HKPEC posted benchmarks? I'm particularlly interested in Gaming Benchmarks. The comparation i'm looking for is, "Is it that big of a justification to go with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 that is 300+ USD over a low-cost (and respectively performing) intel dual core CPU like the 805 D?" I mean, I'm a gamer and I know I "should" go AMD, but as a poor college student, I like choices too.

Then 805 becomes something like a Celeron. It's just Cheap, 920 or 930 for what they cost aren't bad deals. It is also why many here would like to see [H] get a shootout done with with these vs. 3800+ and all rigs overclocked like most of us do. Dang I wish Newegg or MWave would sponser it.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought it with asus p5ld2. I should be getting them in a couple of days and put it together on the weekend. I'll OC and put up some numbers once done.
 
Follow up to my previous post:

I have the 805 running at 3.4ghz on a p5ld2-vm. P95 all night w/o erros. CPU has no HT support but is EMT64. Multiple burns, image creation, and playing games are effortless. I can probly still go higher but atm 3.4 from 2.66 is way good enough for me. $145 from the egg (I think it's even less now) is awesome. I'll be doing benches later.

FYI, I assume the chip will work with out a BIOS flash since its an 800 series. But some people were complaining that their boards wouldn't work with a 900 series... so they had to either wait for a new BIOS chip from Asus, or borrow a 775 processor from someone to flash it.

No bios flash needed. The mobo I have actually is presler ready, it has the newest bios I'm actually set if I do decide to move on to presler.
