I have to appologise in advance for coming out in such a naive way...

I'm generally new to amateur photography in a sense that I've never picked up a book or took any courses in school on the subject, but am familiar with how cameras work and can come up with a couple decent shots once in a while. What I'm looking for is a quick guide (read: cliff's notes) on how to take pictures and I need to learn it all by friday.

I want to take a bunch of b/w portrait photos of a person in a gothic/gloomy setting. So i'm looking for advice on how to add that feeling of doom to my photos by either positioning the camera or the person in some way...

need to learn it all by friday? wtf? I won't ask.

check out the Luminous Landscape....do a google search.
