Hi all,

I've been out of the mouse scene for a while. I had my trusty Logitech G5 and the right mouse button started to fail. I replaced it with a Logitech G500 which was great except it has failed me in a way such that I wish to replace it with a non-Logitech mouse.

I am looking for a gaming oriented mouse that fits the following criteria:
- My hand gets sweaty when the action is intense, a texture that allows me to maintain grip during this is preferred
- I use claw grip mostly but sometimes palm grip
- Moderately lightweight (think G5 without any weights inside of it)
- Corded
- Easily accessible thumb buttons (2-3 preferably, I am not sure how I feel about mice with 10 side buttons)

I'm impressed with the reviews on the corsair mice but they look quite heavy with the metal base.

I've poked around and I see good reviews and bad complaints about nearly every mouse brand out on the market so I am not sure where to go. I'd really love for some practical long term experience from you guys.

Edit: Also suppose I should mention that I usually play MMOs with the occasional brief foray into FPS and Strategy games.

Any price is fine if it's of quality and will last me a long while (had my G5 for 5 years I think). That being said, cheaper is better.

I have the Razer Deathadder and use it for just normal every day things but also for very heavy gaming sessions and it has never failed me. It has 2 buttons on the side for programming and a nice blue lighting that you can set up in so many ways it's not even funny (yes, you can turn it off if you don't want it). I recommend this mouse hands down

If you liked the shape of the g5, then check Logitech g400

Steelseries mice on sale at woot for $15:

Theirs are low-profile, suitable for claw-grip. Quality from other reviews appears to be high.

iJeff,

I was in the exact same boat as you about 9 months ago, with very similar criteria. I know that in your original post you wanted to steer away from Logitech, however, I'm still going to recommend the G700.

I tried the Cyborg, but (for me at least) it was a piece of junk. All of the things people warned about here happened and I returned it.

I tried the SteelSeries which was very nice....but I wanted something with a rougher texture and and more buttons, but I didn't need quite so much control over DPS and such as a professional level gamer might.

I tried some of the other larger heavier mice, and they were just that...large and heavy. Some were "plasticy" and cheap feeling, and some were so loaded with features and LED's and gizmos...it just wasn't me.

I tried some of the more "gamer" ones like the Razer ones and they either had so many buttons that I was hitting them on accident, or I simply would never use all those buttons.

On the recommendation of a few people here I tried the G700 and this has been my favorite mouse to date. I'm a claw gripper and it feels great to me. Its got a rough (but not TOO rough) flat-black texture which works out terrific for me. It has quite a few extra buttons in well thought-out places...without having TOO many in places that you are hitting them on accident. Its a wireless mouse but you can use it 'corded'. I usually don't take advantage of the wireless and use mine corded. Every now and then, its handy having the wireless capability. Its fully programmable and has onboard memory to store (5 I think) of your favorite profiles that you can cycle through using the buttons of the mouse...including what the buttons do, DPS settings, etc. The mousewheel has a "clutch" that you can either use the mouse wheel in normal 'click click click' mode or you can activate the clutch and it will free-spin which has proven really handy when scrolling through long documents. The mouse wheel also clicks left and right...allowing you to horizontal scroll.

I've had the mouse about a year now and haven't had any trouble with it.

Logitech Performance MX.

It's huge, heavy, wireless, expensive, and Logitech. (technically, you can run it in wired mode)

It doesn't shift on the fly, or have 25 buttons, or look like a Transformer.

However...

It's stupid fast. It is very precise. You can't bust it. It becomes an extension of your hand. It will read on ANY surface and is not affected by dirt or anything else.

Perhaps the best mouse design of all time. Right handers only need apply.

I'm using the logitech G700. Great mice, and its wireless. But you can easily plug in cable to charge/make it corded. I was using the cooler master spawn. Was a great mice too and its claw grip!
