I got my father onto GOG.com and he is trying to find a good turn based strategy game, what do you guys/girls recommend?

Civ IV with expansions is really the only great TBS game I've played in a long time. HoMM3 would qualify.

HoMM3 gets my vote. 10$ on GoG if I remember right.

HoMM3 is a good option and if he is into campaigns then HoMM2 is even a better option. I think the best campaigns in the series were that of HoMM2 and its expansion.
