I don't care what the number is, I just want something that is free.
I get terrible cell reception in my house and don't want to pay $20 or actually any money for a landline. And I don't want vonage because it costs money.

Im already paying money for an extra cell line that gets poor reception so not looking to spend anything.

does anyone have any suggestions for free voip?

There is no free VOIP solution that can do more than PC to PC calls, it costs money to provide phone numbers and equipment to send/receive calls to other phones.

Look up SIP as well. I use X-Lite free edition softphone, paired with a few different SIP providers for the out call minutes. Basically I live in Prague, so I have one provider for here, and another for the states, so I get the cheapest rates. My provider for hee states is teliax.com, which I beleive for calling out is cheaper than Skype - it was about a year ago when I signed up, plus 800 numbers are free. My suggestion though is to try a few different providers on the lowest pre pay service you can and see who gives you good call quality. Some of the ones I tried were terrible.

skype mentioned out calls to landlines and cell lines is free until the end of the year. Anyone have any experience using skype? Is it reliable?

Skype works great for me, and the free calls to land or cell lines is awesome. Calls are usually not dropped, but sometimes packets get lost. Usually not even enough to cause a problem.
