Hi there!

I need a card with following specifications. Please tell me, if such thing exists.

- NVIDIA (for Linux drivers)
- Dual DVI (2x 21,3" @ 3200x1200)
- passive cooling OR Zalman compatible OR watercooling compatible
- AGP
- fast enough for some Quake 4 action
- max 150 Euro (182 $) in Germany

Thanks!

PS: I don't like discussions about my price opinions and my choice for Linux.
PPS: My GF4 4600 does not like Quake 4. 10fps in heavy action with 640x480 low details.

Aachen, isnt that where ELSA used to be headquartered?

Too bad they're out of the picture, they made good cards. As for what you are looking for, if you can find a good price on a XFX 6600GT 256MB (or 128MB) these boards all include Dual DVI and are AGP 8X/4X. It's not a screamer, but 6600GT's tend to overclock well and should be enough to play Quake 4 at Medium settings.

BTW, I thought you couldn't buy Quake 4 in Germany? LOL :p

Yeah. Elsa died two times I think...
I will look for these XFX cards, thanks. What about the noise? That is very important to me...

Quake 4 can be ordered via Amazon and is available in several stores (some very big chains have it, too). You need to show your ID, of course.

the BFG 6600gt also has dual dvi. i would get whichever was cheaper though i read the xfx version can be noisy. you can always get a zalman vf700 (coexists with the bridge chip heatsink just fine)

BFG? Ok.
Regarding Zalman: I thought along the lines of ZM80*, so huge heatsink with nearly no fan. Isn't that possible?

This one? I can't find a 256 MB version.
Pine XFX GeForce 6600 GT, 128MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, TV-out, AGP
133 Euro

What about the noise?

Upgrading to a new board with PCIe would be possible, too. Raise the bar to 200 Euro then :(

i dont think they make a 256MB 6600gt and the zm80 is not compatible with the 6600gt. as for the noise, some people find the xfx cooler to be noisy..

what motherboard and cpu do you have btw?

They do make 256MB 6600GT's, however they can be pricey. The cooler is no nosier than any other brands cooler generally. If you want absolute quiet for that board hook it up to your WC loop. I'm sure a local machinist can fabricate a crossbar/bracket for you to mount it up with. Don't forget some ramsinks too! :p
