Hey guys my dad wants to upgrade from his fried Geforce TI4200... lol he plays cs source a bunch and i am just looking for another decent card that is under $100 that he can use... anyone know of any good geforce brand cards? 128mb at least is what we need...

9600 is the best thing under $100. For just a few extra dollars, you can score a 9600Pro.
 
You already have one of the best sub $100 geforce card in the form of the 4200. You'd have to go into the used card sector and maybe find a 5700 Non-Ultra or Ultra (not LE). If you're lucky might also be able to find a 5900XT for close to $100. To get anything better in the sub $100 field you'd have to look towards ATI.
 
Someone else is looking at buying stuff(in this forum iirc) and someone found a 9600pro refurbished for 80$at newegg for them. I'd trust that more than e-bay, but I guess it depends on how much faith you put in refurbished things.

I would recomend either the 6200 non-TC or the 6600nu both use the same gpu as the 6600GT just downclocked. The pipes on the 6200 can be unlocked and it would then basicly be a 6600 but I would recomend spending the extra $7 to get the 6600. Overclocked these can acheive very respectable frames and dominate anything in the price range. This thread shows just how much one can do. 3200 marks in 05' is nothing to scoff at especially for a car that costs $100.
 
I'm pretty sure that the existing Ti4200 is in an AGP system and that it's replacement will be expected to do the same. With that in mind, the 6200 and 6600 are going to cost $120 and $150 - numbers that are starting to stray significantly away from "under $100".

Even if he could find an FX card for sub $100, they don't run source nearly as well as the ATI cards. The 9600 / 9600 pro is the next option here for the money.

Those are both PCI-E cards, the threadstarter needs an AGP card.
 
w00t gillette? An OC'ed 5700LE would beat up on that card pretty badly... And for under $100, a 5700LE or 5700NU is about all that can be found... And they basically have similar performance to a ti4200, but can handle AA and AF way better, and can utilize DX9 features, sorta...

Considering the TI4200 gets about 40% of the 3DMark03 score as the 9500Pro, I seriously doubt that is anywhere close to true ;) An OCed 9550 256MB gets comparable benchmark scores to a Radeon 9600 Pro.

The 5700LE is also $15 more.
 
i picked up a 9550 refurb off newegg for $52, overclocked the gpu to 9600pro speeds, but the memory is hardly overclockable at all, i get just over 20,000 aquamarks on a celeron 2.4 northwood

it does runs source, but i personally wouldnt want to play it on that card, runs much smoother on my 6600gt
