i know agp is being phased out but i dont have the resources to upgrade my mobo as well as my graphics card right now. im not looking for anything top of the line anyway. basically, right now i am split between a x1600pro and a 7800GS. Anyone have any suggestions concerning those two or maybe some other ones?
I am upgrading from a 9800pro. Here is the rest of my specs
WD160 hard drive
p4 3.0Ghz
p4p800e-deluxe mobo

I say get a X1800XT
Best bang for the buck at the moment, hands down.
Get the 512MB version only if you're running a 2405FPW or something similar.

I also am looking for a new AGP card as a temporary stopgap (I'm going to wait for Vista, R600, and maybe Conroe or the AMD equivalent before I buy a completely new PC). I used to have a 9700 All in Wonder, but that died. I looked quickly, and it looks like the X1600 Pro is the best ATI card currently available in AGP. Would this definitely give performance over my 9700? Also, what are the odds that this card would be able to drive a game like HL2 on a 1920x1080 LCD monitor?

x850 cards are actually faster than the x1600 (which has other advantages: dual-link DVI, AVIVO, low power). You can get those for a decent price now.

I guess I should add that I have a Shuttle SFF and need a card that only takes up one slot, so its the X1600 Pro, X850Pro, or the slightly more expensive XFX Geforce 7800GS. I'd prefer to spend as little as possible on what is surely going to be a temporary solution, but if its that big of a performance difference, I might possibly be convinced to spend more.

what do you think is the better deal, a x850XT or a 7800GS. The x850 is about 50 bucks cheaper on newegg so I am leaning towards that option right now

I wasnt aware they made an AGP X1800XT.

In my opinion I really like my 7800GS. On the 3dMark06 list on here Im above every X850XT on the list. I think the 7800GS as great overclocking potential. Im running mine at 500/1420 with no problems. But if your going for cheap as you can then go for what you can get.

I have upgraded two computers the last month from a 9800Pro and a Geforce FX 5600 to two 7800 GS cards and they're excellent performers!

Looks like he is trying to get out of this cheap. Those cards are really expensive.
